I have two P4 775 cpu's:

Intel 630, 3.00GHz, 2MB cache, 800 FSB
vs.
Intel 524, 3.06GHz, 1MB cache, 533 FSB

FSB & cache or 2% more clockspeed? Mind you, a lower thermal/power consumption would be a huge factor - the desktop machine would benefit from the cooler processor regardless of speed.
Both are running DDR2 667, I'm not sure the Dell GX280 will even run DDR2-800.

The 524 is likely more overclock friendly as it is only running at 533 FSB - it would be fairly trivial to overclock to 3.06 ghz from 3ghz. The extra 1 meg cache might make a difference for some applications, although at this point both cpus are very, very slow.

There are overclocking utilities to run within windows if the Dell has no ability to overclock using the bios.

The 630 supports Speedstep, if that makes a difference.

You may be able to get the 524 up to 4.6Ghz on air, though. :)

Dell says the GX280 supports DDR2-800.

Yeh, easily the cache. The 2% clockspeed makes literally no difference at all in practical applications. the 100% cache increase definitely does though.
