I stupidly got sucked into some internet scam about sample products at ridiculously low prices and sent off my CC number..

Little did I know they are charging my 90 bucks a month on it and also sent my CC to another vendor who is now charging 10 bucks a month for some ebook sht.

I called and sent off my cancellation notice for the 90 bucks ,but not really sure if it is a a facade they gave me. Cause now I am getting charged for this stupid ebook thing.

The CC company won't help because they said it was my choice to make the purchase.

I am thinking of reporting my card stolen or lost. this way the CC will automatically cancel all future purchase made on my card at the time of reporting. I will get a new card and new number and start "clean" . So if the internet debits continue, the purchase will be declined, as it would be reported as a stolen/lost card.

Would this work?

I already had to cancel a card because a merchant charged my card every month even I canceled my contract with them. MasterCard did 3 chargebacks (one each months) and they didn't stop. After the 3rd time, MasterCard canceled my card and sent me a new card.

Two months later, the merchant succeeded to charge my CC again, even if it was canceled. The bank said they can sometime succeed to do that if they had an auth on the card in the past. This never happened since.

So, maybe just canceling your card will not solve your problem.

But this would be a new card with a new number. And if the vendor tried to debit the card, it would reported as stolen, wouldn't it? This would effectively "block" any and all transactions.

If you had an existing contract with that company then under some cases may still be able to push charges through on a cancelled card. It will be redirected to your new number.

Also reading your response if the CC company is not willing to help you out as they are saying you and the merchant agreed to something, they may still allow that merchant to continue charging your card as per the "Agreed terms". However I suppose if you got rid of the account completely by closing it, that would probably prevent them from charging you anymore.

If the CC company has a record of your previous conversations in regards to the recurring charges, the CC company may find it odd that your card is now being reported as being lost or stolen.
