You can get MW2 early from ebay. It will cost you around $25 more, but you'll get it early. The major retailers (BB, FS, WM) all have systems in place that prevent stores from breaking the street date - they couldn't sell the game early if they wanted to.

Edit: Gamemart818 is the seller I was trying to think of above. Check them out on ebay if you're willing to pay more to get it early.

i know they can ban you if you play an illegal copy of the game, but also read that they can ban you if play a retail bought game released early. I think this was mentioned with Halo 3, where they said they would ban gamertags that play online before street date.

Maybe now it's just banning people playing the copied version, since lots of people get highly anticipated games early, so i doubt they can ban all those gamers for something that's not their fault and beyond their control.

All my searches have yielded nothing in Toronto, however there are some craigslist deals for like 120 dollars.

I found a Walmart in heartland, mississauga who broke street date by accident. I saw this old middle eastern lady sorting mw2 for ps3, and to my surprise it she was new to electronics. So she didn't know what a PS3 was, let alone Modern Warfare 2. For some reason it wouldn't scan(anti early street date sale?) or she was probably stupid or something. She scanned in another PS3 with the same price. LOL. My friends were with me at the time, so they picked up a copy of it as well. I got real lucky and I've been playing it since. But I really feel bad for the cashier that sold it to us because it would probably mean her job. I came back today to get a few more copies for friends and she wasn't there anymore. So your best bet would be to go around all stores looking for old people working at electronics who know nothing but games and street dates lmao.

Yea, Sony doesn't care if you get the game early or not since they're not all worried about their games being pirated ;). MS on the other hand does care losing its profits to piracy, which they have the right too. By the looks of a certain X360 forum, people voted 66.06%(Downloaded Version... Sharpie + No case FTW), 17.31%(Standard Copy Devs deserve some Cash), 4.5%(Hardened Edition The art book will help me PWN MOAR), 11.54%(Prestige Edition. I'm a Grade A sucker), 8.34%(Battlefield Bad Company 2 YEEEAAHHH GET SOME). This is obviously targeted towards those pirates, but lets say if 20% of xbox users have their systems modded, 66% of that will be lost sales. Overall 13.2% of total game sales will be lost to piracy. It's very disheartening to see such a great game being stolen when you know its worth the price you pay for entertainment.

When it wasn't scanning the first time, it was most definitely the transaction block due to selling before street date, cashiers can override it though but it is really risky for the store since the employee doing it could get fired and the store would get fined $5,000 for each copy sold.

thats one weird hobby because your saying its a hobby to go on a hunt for a game that comes out in less than a week. Its ONE WEEK. Have people lost 'patience' in today's world. I'm pretty sure they have other hobbies other than to hunt for a game. There are probably more immediate concerns.

if amazon estimate is off, it is often later than sooner, generally if its a game I am waiting to play, I would not order from amazon just to save a few bucks, but if its a Prestige edition that you're waiting for, then I guess its worth waiting for...

I hate waiting for anything, it is only money after all... I would pay $200 no problem for 2 weeks early... just this game though... or I would mod my 360 and play it... either way, I love the series..... and I would... heck, I buy them even though I do not have to ;)

1. If you dont think its worth it, then why dont you just ignore it and move on? I dont think $6 is worth a drink at starbucks, or that Ed Hardy shirts should be $300....But I dont go around saying people are crazy for charging that much-if people are willing to pay it-good for them.

2. Is it really not worth it?....Maybe not for you....Maybe your happy to pick up the game on Tuesday after work and play then. Maybe your also one of those people that waits a few weeks to see a new movie to avoid lines, or to see it on a cheap Tuesday. Either way, for many people it will be worth it...I plan on selling them at Midnight releases at BB, EBgames and FS...I have sold about 6 already, and have 15 left.

Think about it....
Someone lines up at 9pm for the release.....

3 hrs in line
30min-1 hr to buy.
Get the game at home around 1am? Compared to 930pm?

If 4 hours of your time is not worth the extra $70, plus the bonus of playing early....Then you need to quit McDonalds and get a real job. ;)

I love when people on RFD laugh at other people who pay/charge exorbitant amounts of money for things. Essentially, we're all on this site to save money so it's kind of foreign to some of you that in order to SAVE money, or even make a little coin for your hardwork, you may have to charge someone else MORE for something than it might be worth, taking into account your time etc.

At the end of the day there's always a dumb fool will pay $12 for a $1 bill... and credit should be due to the lad or lass who can find that person :)

It's like this one guy who was selling GTA4 2 days early for 200$ in the BST, and he got hundreds of posts claiming he was a ripoff. Don't expect a kind reception if you're trying to make such a huge profit; 100$ I'd understand, but no way 140$.

Next big game? After Modern Warfare 2, every other game becomes irrelevant. I would definitely jump on buying your MW2 for 120$ if it were under other circumstances (ie. paid for MW2 in credit at EBGames, releasing in under 12 hours, etc).

my copy from Bestbuy.ca has shipped! received my shipping notification and checked my tracking number and it will arrive tomorrow.

This is the first i recall Bestbuy.ca actually shipping out a preorder a day before release, but i guess it makes sense since this is a huge game and i'm sure they would want gamers to receive it on street day or day after.

My copy of Borderlands still hasn't shipped at the $39.99 price from Bestbuy so i just canceled it, and will pick it up later once it drops in price a little.
