Hey Y'all.
This morning I was awoken by a phone call asking for a Jalil for a possible job interview regarding a position entitled to $150,000 a year. I was half asleep when she called, and she asked for Jalil, I said "yes" but it didnt click right away that she had the wrong number cus i was still dazed and half asleep. She asked me if I still wanted the job with "such and such company, salary grade 150,000" I politely said "I am sorry, I am not interested" because I thought it was a telemarketer calling, then she said "oh ok, have a nice day Jalil" and then It quickly hit me, the alarm clock on the head, then thats when i woke up fully and realized some poor guy is gonna loose out on a high paying job cus of me, and the lady who dialed the wrong number because she has fat fingers or got her nails dun and dialed incorrectly, lol.
Am I a bad person for doing such? it was early, I was half asleep, and mis-understood, its not like i did it on purpose.

It could have been a placement firm, headhunter etc.
And then that is the way the phone call would go.

yes you did do something wrong in responding. You potentially screwed someone over out of a job and you could have unintentionally ruined his life.
However, if karma is true, a random girl will walk up to yo and kick you in the balls resulting in you losing one of your testicles.

wow, thanks for being mrs. negativity. when your half asleep, you can do many things you dont want to, like step in the dogs bowl of water and spill it all over the floor then your mother-in law will walk over the area and slip and fall and hurt her back, and its not really your fault because you were sleeping.

I don't get a whole lot of job offers, but usually employers won't say "do you want a job at so and so company with XXX salary". Correct me if I am wrong, let me tell you what is wrong with this:
1) If this was a big company, the HR will not tell you the salary amount or any terms over the phone like that. What they would do is they would ask you if you are still interested, and if you are; they will draft an offer which you will receive on paper or through e-mail. A HR at a big company will NEVER tell you the term of your offer over the phone like that.
2) If this is a small company, most likely the person who interviewed you will call you. When you pick up the phone, they probably only have to briefly say I am Cindy/Raymond/Linda from so and so, and you would probably recognize him/her right in the beginning. Unless the caller or receiver is a fruit cake, either party would recognize that they are not talking to the right person.

Yes, you are correct, that is the way they do it at McDonalds and WalMart.
But if you are getting a real job, you may be going through a headhunter.
And the headhunter would call you and say, "Hey you got the job at xxx for $xxxxxx, do you still want it?

According to TV (my primary caregiver growing up) you should have taken the job and assumed their identity. Hilarity ensues until you're 'found out' but by then you've won the heart of the CEO and also won the heart of a very attractive co-worker. Everything works out.

hmm... perhaps. But personally, if I were a headhunter, I would not do that. A million things can go wrong and I would become liable. What if I hand out an offer to a candidate over the phone and then the employer backs out on the terms of the offer or on the offer itself? What if there was a communication problem and I misunderstood either party? The candidate (or employer) could possibly sue me for damages. As a business person, I would want to minimize that liable by acting as a mediator on the deal, not as a middleman and certainly don't want to make a deal over the phone like that.
Also, even if you are going through a headhunter, the employer would probably draft a offer on paper and the headhunter will make you meet with him/her in person to discuss the offer together. As some headhunters gets paid by the terms of your contract (fraction of salary for X months), he/she would want to make sure that it is a contract you want to accept while yielding maximum fees for the headhunter in the same time.

This just bring back my sweet memory, I really miss the guy night out.
It's could be an employment agency. They DO tell you the salary range over the phone. You shouldn't be worry about it. If the guy is really interested in the job, it's his responsibility to follow up. Otherwise he just mass spamming the application.

Well i just want to thank some of the peeps on here for some valuable info, i would have never thought some people call asking for SIN information regarding job interviews could be a potential risk, but yeah atleast I know not to do that, but in a half sleepy state, who knows how you respond? I am just glad I did not give any info to them. I've noticed lately lots of telemarketers getting sneaky and asking for personal info over the phone lately.
