Recently heard about their great CCD sensor and its high Dynamic range capability. but can't find them anywhere for sale, are they being discontinued?
the S5 is their latest, that was 2 years ago i believe.
The great thing is, they use Nikon mount, so lense selection is not a problem.
Share your Fujifilm DSLR experience & educate me :)

I used a Fiji S2 since it came out, great camera, better colours than the Nikon d100. I shot everything form architectural interiors to people.

Great camera for portraits.
So-so camera for finely detailed macro shots.
Love my S5. Too bad you can't get them anymore.

is it just the S5 is discontinued? or Fujifilm is out of the DSLR game?

Last year I talked to a Fujifilm sales rep and he told me that Fuji is getting out of the DSLR game as they don't make enough money out of it. Whereas Nikon can make money off of the camera bodies, they also pull profit in from sales of accessories and lens which Fuji has no stake in. Hence why they are leaving an unprofitable business sector.
From my own experiences with Fuji from my father's S2 and S5 they are slow clunky weird cameras. Sure the colour (especially for portraits) is mighty fine and the dynamic range is crazy .. but this camera lacks in resolution (6MP stretched to 12MP) and has some strong (ie. makes my images blurrier) noise reduction algorithms (at least when compared to my Canon full frames which isn't really fair). Also I must remind you this camera is SLOW! From taking photos at 1 FPS (S5 with high dynamic range turned on), to viewing photos, from the wacky interface that looks like it was designed by engineers and not photographers.

I've had my Fuji S5pro for like a year and a half now, a very nice upgrade from the D50 I had previously. The dynamic range is superb, you can pull details that you thought were blown out when you shoot raw and tweak in ACR. Out of camera JPEGS are excellent as well due to the accurate auto WB, plus those "film" replication modes. The body is essentially a D200 so ergonomics and build are very good and you can use it as a master for the Nikon CLS system, which I really love.
On the con side, the camera is really slow, 2fps max, it is definitely not a sports/action camera, plus reading/writing speeds are slow too. The LCD isn't very high resolution (when compared to what's available now), but it does have a handy zoom to face feature when you're reviewing images to make sure the eyes are sharp. The noise isn't too bad imo it doesn't seem to have as much colour noise (I forgot the technical term for this), it's more of a "grain" but I don't use iso1600+ very often.
Interface is made by Fuji and isn't very intuitive, it actually takes awhile to get used to. Reviewing through images takes awhile too.
I bought it on the good praise that najibs gave it. I've been pretty happy with it. And as long as you're aware of it's flaws and know what you're shooting doesn't need the highest fps, it's a pretty good alternative to the standard Nikons/Canons.
