Buying a digital camera : best time to do it?

Well with my motorcycle season nearly over, I need to find something to occupy myself during winter!

After reading and doing a lot of research, I think I finally made my choice : a Nikon D90 with a 18-105mm len kit.

I'll be buying this kit in the upcoming weeks. I was just wondering if now was the right moment to do this. Should I wait a little bit for Christmas Specials? What about Boxing Day, could I expect a very good deal by then (I mean a substancial rebate)?

Since I'm in Québec, I will definitively order online somewhere in Canada (I'll be looking at photoprice.ca) to find deals. That way I will save the PST and have the Nikon Canada Warranty.

I'm also looking at used gear, providing that I can find a good deal.

If I'm buying a new camera, do you think I should wait for Boxing Day or maybe possible Christmas deals? I'm not in a hurry, but I don't want to wait for too long! ;)

You have the right attitude. Select & test a couple finalists, then pull the trigger when you find a promo. Models change pretty quick so don't let buyer's remorse bite you - enjoy your camera.

I'd join a local club or forum for used items. You don't want to hand over serious money for a lens to complete stranger on the metro. Forums have feedback systems for some reassurance.

That's because I've tried and have bought cameras during boxing days, and those that they try to get rid of are normally crappy ones or outdates ones. It's hardly the ones you would want.

Ebay's a good place to get camera my friend told me before.

I'm not sure I'll go the ebay route tho, unless I'm 100% certain that the camera has a valid Nikon Canada Warranty.

Buy local and just negotiate a deal at Aden or Henry's.

It's not really worth waiting until boxing day, you won't see any substantial decreases in price for hardware. This only happens at the products end of life and even then it's not as big as you think because generally the replacing product ends up costing the same amount as the outgoing body.

I know if you buy Henry's extended warranty they'll let you price match your products for 45 days.

So really the best time to buy it is when you want it.

I am not sure-which credit cards give you a 30 day pricematch policy? How does it work? I have never heard of this before. Do you contact the credit card company?
