Especially when its a middle aged lady hooting and hollering all through the day. Does it make you wonder what the eff is so exciting about work in general....or do you realize that maybe you ARE a sourpuss afterall!

Sure, but still "all through the day" is a bit too much! :cheesygri

You're lucky... I got a lady who yaks all day long with no concept of "indoor voice". Most of the time she's on the phone, but she will also talk to other people... from her chair! She's too lazy to walk over to other cubes. But if there is nobody around, then she talks to herself!

I'm wearing noise cancelling earbuds with the music on high and I still can't drown her out.

You seem to feel that the fact that she is middle aged adds to the irritation. Why is that? With some luck, you too may have the pleasure of being middle aged one day. Consider the alternative.

Be thankful she is cheery as she could be the opposite. A real grouchy, mean spirited, cruel person. Embrace her cheeriness. Maybe it'll rub off.

Do we work at the same place? I have another lady in this "cheerful" lady's team who's exactly like you put it except that she laughs like a goat braying...only a few decibels too loud.

Well, her being of any age isn't the issue. It's the constant...and I really mean it....the constant cheerful which almost borders on fakeness. Maybe she really is a jolly type....but come on....wouldn't it get tiresome after a while?

to some people, it is their philosophy to live that way (ie., always positive, cheerful and want to share the "joy"), we just have to tolerate it and try not to let it affect our minds.

i think if it affects your work performance, then you should say something about it. obviously, she should be let go if she's affecting the company's productivity negatively.

Well, YOU are the one who made a point of the fact that she is middle aged, by posting the following:

Especially when its a middle aged lady...

But in any case, I would take a cheerful, pleasant person over a crabby sourpuss any day. I know a woman in my area who is probably one of the sweetest, most cheerful, positive people I've ever met and I love her take on life and her attitude. Negativity breeds negativity and I think the same SHOULD go with positivity so try to enjoy her attitude as you may find it will rub off on you.

The noisy people I can deal with.

The worst are those middle-aged, female, busy bodies. The kind that spend half their time looking over people's shoulders, spreading gossip, and sucking up to management.

Welcome to the office world people,a laughing co worker is better than a grumpy one,if they are using the time to talk about non business issues then that's a problem but if for business reasons even though it's ignoring live with it....

Yes, they are FAR worse then the young guys and gals who speak poor grammar while going on and on about how wasted they got last night, and how they got away with this that or the other thing. Oh, wait, did I just make a generalization about how young people behave?

Well, middle aged women and men are typically in or passing their prime so they do what's necessary to keep their job which is to suck up to management. Just like how girls are who use their "charm" to get what they want from men and people in authority.

I think I prefer the perkiness over this depressing environment I am in. I also think it’s not the middle aged folks that love running to the rumour mills as I’ve got early to mid 20’s females that are the horrible ones and the middle age ladies are the sweetest! How would you guys like it if a co-worker started yapping that you got bloody fired!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:mad::mad:

Ok maybe the intial post didn't come out right. The empahsis was definitely not on her being middle-aged. The only reason I mentioned it is cuz I generally associate this attention-seeking perkiness with younger women...our domain!!! ;) Besides who doesn't like good natured, honest, cheerfulness...but when its day in day out, without any downtime...you ought to get tired!

Now if anyone retorts back with me being grumpy, grouchy....well...hello!!! its established in the first post! :D

Sure as hell beats the uber-disgruntled-grumpy-angry coworker. Everything he says is something negative, whether it be about his crap job, crap managers, crap strangers, crap politics, crap crap... I hate listening to his crap. I don't wanna listen to your misery, I have my own, thank you.

But I also have an uber-perky coworker dude, he is so friendly it is annoying, but I prefer his company over uber-grumpy guy. With uber-perky we can make fun of him and he laughs about it too, therefore it's enjoyable, you can't do that with uber-grumpy. The only downside with uber-perky is the fact that most people find him very creepy cuz he's so weird-friendly.

It's even worse when they're aware of it and do it anyway...I had a lady like that come over to my desk one day and introduce herself and say "I'm the loud one next door that's always cursing... don't mind me".

If you want to know the real story with these people, ask Alex Jones...
