Hi all.

I know there is a thread about Sleep Country Canada, but I'd like to know the best place to buy a mattress in the GTA. As an aside, I'd also like to know if any GTA stores sell this 'Heavenly Bed' from Starwood hotels I believe?

I believe that you can purchase the Heavenly Bed by going on the Westin/Starwood web site. I don't know if they are sold in any mattrees stores here. I used to travel for business to the states regulary over 5yrs ago and stayed in Westin hotels and those beds were great.

Heavenly beds are Beautyrest mattresses made by Simmons with extra reinforcement called " Lumbar support " going across and Sleep Country carries them. Other retailers carry them but without the extra reinforcement.

Thanks for the replies.

What else should I be looking for a in a great mattress? What is the deal with coils and padding etc? Any extra insight is appreciated.

No regrets with my purchase there. Also I tried comparing coil count plus a bunch of other items (can't remember now as it's been 3 years) and it was a nightmare.

My experience with Sleep Country was pretty negative after the whole experience.

Are you sure Sleep Country carries the Heavenly Bed? My understanding is its only available through Westins hotel chain and at Nordstrom in the states?

I'm pretty sure they do, although I think that maybe due to copyright issues that maybe they call it something else within the store. I asked about this quickly last week while there and they showed me a bed that they said was the 'Heavenly' bed. But who knows?

What is the most percentage anyone has been able to get off when working a deal for a mattress?

I guess Sleep Country is the best one/most selection?

I love the Heavenly bed as well. The first one I tried was at the San Francisco Westin in May/09 and, guess what? It was heaven:lol:

Do not ever ever buy from the Bay. Their sales staff are helpful, price is not that bad, but their delivery services / people are the worst in the industry. I had such a hard time with them that I decided not to make any big purchase with them anymore.

I'm not sure how much is true, but so far it seems to mirror my mattress buying experiences (ie. each store has their own "exclusive mattress")

This was my experience about 3 years ago, what a nightmare. Eventually went to Costco and purchased their best mattress and saved.

Stay away from Sleep Country Canada.

What exactly was your experience with Sleep Country? A little more detail might be helpful to understand.

And did you find the same exact mattress at Costco as at Sleep Country and it was cheaper?

If you buy from costco, how do you get rid of your old mattress? What is the added cost?

Sleep country takes it away for free.

Just as in the article, I went to several stores and wrote down as much detail as possible (coil count, material, coil thickness, etc. etc. etc.) I then went to Sleep Country as they claim they can compete with anyone. Then the games and excuses began as to why I couldn't compare the first mattress with theirs.
I remember my wife and I saying this is b.s. In the end I felt like they were trying to pull a fast one, lying etc. etc.

I've steered quite a few people away from there.
Again I'm not giving you much to go on but it has been 3 years and I'm kind of glad I forgot most of the details, as the whole Sleep Country experience was terrible.

Again others may feel different. I certainly would shop around. All the bells and whistles that they claim to offer are just that, they don't add anything to the product. As in the article the whole mattress sale is a scam.

Nothing is for free. In my case we didn't have to get rid of a mattress as it went in one of the spare rooms.

In our area getting rid of oversize garbage is not a problem. Two days before garbage day you phone and indicate that you have oversize garbage for pickup and they send a special truck.

This is probably not true for Toronto, so I can sympathize.

I'm starting to see what you're saying. Made my first trip into Sleep Country.

Salesman was as sleazy as ever (I'm sure they're not all like that) but the clincher was when he 'reminded' me that if I didn't buy the boxspring that the 10 year warranty on the mattress would be void. He said this was true of every other retailer selling mattresses. Is this true or more lies? I can't recall.

I'm not sure about the warranty if you don't buy the box spring. Sorry to hear about your experience.
Yes, that brings back memories about Sleep Country, they could lie, lie and lie some more all the while looking you straight in the eye. I can't stand low life like that.

In my experience mattresses, much like insurance and eyeglasses are severely overpriced for no good reason (other than moneymaking). If you look at what goes into making a mattress there is no way these thing should cost +/- a grand considering the volume they produce. I can't say I found a good solution, other than finding a low overhead furniture store which will get the one you want (or equivalent) in for you. Other than that, I'd recommend looking at foam/latex matresses - I find them superior to most spring based ones. Firmer, but more comfortable and better for your back in the long term. If you want to give latex a try, find a Jysk store, that's where I bought the last one for my mother. They go on sale and that's the time to buy. I bought a queen for under $500.
