You have to pay per CarProof report. I don't think anyone will dish out $40 to a random stranger over the internet.

ICBC has a free VIN checking tool (http://www.icbc.com/registration-licensing/buy-vehicle/buy-used/vehicle-history#Variables._frag_) on their website, but it will only show the status of the vehicle (if it is registered in BC).

CarProof is a better tool anyways compared to Carfax. You want CarProof for more indetailed searches.

I wanted carfax to see if anything comes up in the US.

I am looking at a 2003 vw and the first info for it is "in dealer inventory" in sept 2004 with 19,000kms on it.

No prior info

CarProof also has US coverage, in fact it has even better coverage. Carfax relies on others reporting accidents and stuff to them, CarProof looks them up across multiple databases.
