OMG. was the car salesman with you in the car?
If not, you can play dumb and hope they don't know who it was. Otherwise, it will go through insurance and your insurance will get involved. If you currently don't have insurance you will have to pay out of pocket.

I laughed (well, snickered) when I first read this... But then I got to thinking that I've never signed anything when taking a test drive acknowledging responsibility for any damage done. So I would have assumed (always dangerous) that the car dealership has insurance to take care of things like that.

Pretty sure dealerships have insurance for stuff like this.
Think about it like this, most people who are buying new cars probably don't have insurance yet... so the dealership must have some kind of protection.

They will most likely fix it in their own shop and just overcharge a bunch of customers to cover the cost.

hahaha.. Oh boy. :P
When you're handing the keys back, point out the damage and ask for scratch and dent pricing.

They do, but the OP will most likely be found at fault. I do believe it's under Chapter ID, section 10, subsection t) of the Insurance Rules.

Buy used cause if you buy a new car it isn't going to last very long.
If it was me, I'd be upfront with the dealership and work it out. Of course, you should have asked this beforehand.

Yes, they do have insurance. When they ask people for a copy of their drivers license, it is to protect themselves. Their insurance won't cover anything if they let unlicensed people test drive. I have no idea about the deductible portion though.

pfft do it the RFD way,
Tell them that you noticed there are scratches on the vehicle, but you absolutely LOVED the handling and feel of that particular demo car. tell them you will take it off their hands for a 50% discount because of the scratches
