Hi

Looking for some expert advice on this on, not really familiar with cell phones and their carriers.

My dad recently ruined his telus cell phone by water damage, and of course telus won't repair it due to it being water damage. They told him he should buy a prepaid telus phone (cheapest one i can find it 69.99) and they would change the card in it for an extra 25 bucks. He has an old cell phone that was bell/aliant, could he just use that? As well, how difficult is it to replace the card in cell phones, could he save himself the 25 dollars and do it himself?

Any advice would be appretiated, thanks all!

There is no card inside a telus phone. Each phone is identified by its serial number. What they are essentially doing is go into their online system, change the phone number associated to your (new phone) from your old one. You can do it online for $10 (aka self-serve)

Believe it or not, Bell/aliant/Telus use the same technology, but they wouldn't allow each others' phone connect to their own system.

if you don't mind buying used, browse the BST:Cellphone forums, pick up a Telus phone and then go through the web self-serve to program the phone (it is simple, they have step by step instructions).

Bell phones and Telus phones aren't allowed on each others networks.

hmm, that's disappointing, but thanks for the info none the less.

Question, so would rogers be a better carrier than those two due to those limitations?
