Anyone here Japanese? Living in Canada? What are your experiences? Why did you come to Canada? Would you like to move back to Japan in the future?

Where's the best place in Canada to re-connect with the Japanese community? Do you find it easier to get jobs because you're Japanese? Any trouble worshipping your Japanese religion of choice in Canada? Shocked that Canada doesn't have "Shakken" for its vehicles (so rusted out Hondas can stay on the road indefinitely!)?

I'm not writing an essay or anything. Just wondering what my fellow Japanese-Canadians think of Canada, and whether staying in Canada is truly in their long-term plans, considering how great Japan is, in comparison.

I know quite a few Japanese Canadians. Reasons for coming and whether they want to go back will vary from person to person, obviously. If you are really interested, you can learn more by visiting the JCCC http://www.jccc.on.ca/.

I can give you a counter point on how great Canada is - Canada has men (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lumberjack) that Japanese women want (http://www.economist.com/world/asia/displaystory.cfm?story_id=14756847)

Remember, the last samurai is this guy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Cruise)

In the empire of Japan, companies are forced to let workers get off ON TIME AT 5PM at least 2 days/week to promote sex and procreation.

What an odd statement. If you cannot elaborate farther than fast internet and anime, then I would say you're talking rubbish.

I could probably list a few hundred things I like better about Japan (lived there during better economic times, mind you) and at least that many about Canada....but I don't think I could ever make a broad sweeping generalization about "greatness".

Maybe they should ban having sex with dolls/robots if they want to promote procreation.

Lot of questions there.

They need to figure out how to get octopi to impregnate women since that's all the rage there. All I ever hear is about tentacle sex. What's up with that? And more importantly, how is that arousing?

Japan used to be one of the greatest country in the world, until its economy crashed 20 years ago.

Japan now is one of the worst place to be/work. You have one of the longest working hours (80hours/week). It's very difficult to find a good-paying job and cost of living is high.

Japan is similiar to Vancouver, good to visit but you have to be rich to live comfortably.

pitz, why don't you consider returning to Japan? An engineer with fluent English skills will probably have better chances of finding a job there than here (at least according to your survey of market conditions lol).

Because you need to be fluent in Japanese (both read/write) in order to be able to be considered to get a good job. Japan is unlike HK where it is more international and you could get by using English.

That's an exaggeration. South Koreans have the longest working hours in the world. From Forbes:

Lee, who sometimes has to sleep at the ministry of agriculture and fisheries by lying on top of his desk, might seem like a workaholic that needs to get his priorities straight. But his schedule is completely normal in South Korea, where the average employee works 2,357 hours per year--that’s six-and-a-half hours for every single day of their life. According to a 2008 ranking by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, South Koreans work the longest hours per year, on average, out of every other OECD member.

Kind of like what is happening to the US now? The US government bailed out their banks just like the Japanese government did 20 years ago and it didn't help much.

I am Japanese. From the Hokkaidō region which is the northernmost zone and has a temperate climate with long, cold winters and cool summers. Precipitation is not heavy, but the islands usually develop deep snow banks in the winter.

I was exiled to Canada because I brought shame upon my family.

I hope I have enough time to rebuild my honor and return.
I think I should be okay since Japan has one of the highest life expectancy rates in the world, at 81.25 years of age as of 2006. The Japanese population is rapidly aging, the effect of a post-war baby boom followed by a decrease in births in the latter part of the twentieth century. In 2004, about 19.5% of the population was over the age of 65.

I hope for your sake you're joking about the whole dishonour thing. Couldn't you just hide in a different city? Change your name or something

Anyways, Japan seems cool to me. I find the culture extremely interesting since it's a lot different to Canadian culture, but I don't see myself living there ever.

I do hope to visit though in the near future. Tokyo, Kyoto and Yokohama are on my list. :cheesygri
