Well, I just got an unlocked Iphone, it's firmware 3.1.2 and I just popped in my sim card from another phone and I think that should work right? Is there anything else I need to do? Because I keep getting 'call failed' whenever I try to call, and it shouldn't be signal reception since I'm just inside my house....

Is your Sim card for CDMA

Definitely not. It's a roger's sim card. For GSM obviously. Besides - Do CDMA even use sim cards?

Maybe take it to Rogers?

My buddy told me it has to be activated to the network through iTunes first. I don't know what that means as I don't have an iPhone, but he does and said that is what he had to do first.

Your phone is obviously NOT unlocked.

If it is first time then you might have to connect your iPhone to your computer... run iTunes so it can activate your iPhone...

You don't need to activate if it's unlocked. iPhone would instruct you to connect to iTunes if it needs to be

Thats not always true. I can have an unlocked baseband, but without hacktivating it, it will not work without the original carrier SIM.

if I remember correctly Im pretty sure there is no unlock yet for 3.1.2 so your phone may actually not be unlocked

you can unlock 3.1.2 just google it.
To Op call failed means you are not connected to any network. You need to unlock before you use it with other provider.

Yeah I'm thinking the guy lied about the unlock...I put the sim card in and Itunes says the sim card is not recognized or invalid...

Looks like I'll have to wait. The ra1n/sn0w mods are only for modem version 4.xx, mine is 5.xx and there's no way to unlock it right now for that version.

If it's a Rogers phone that was unlocked and you're using it for rogers and see zero reception bars then you just have to re-jailbreak it.

I was having this problem last night.. when you use PwnageTool, there's an option for "Activate Phone". If your phone is from an authorized iPhone reseller (i.e. Rogers) you're supposed to uncheck that otherwise you won't be able to use your phone

You're supposed to have baseband 5.11.07

^ thanks. I tried that, but the step where the iphone restarts and shows the ra1n icon and prompts me to install sn0w doesn't appear. It just restarts and doesn't prompt anything, I don't get any ra1n icons appearing.
