View Full Version : Keeping old plans with Bell's iPhone

I have been with Bell for a while and now I have a great plan with them with a simple non-smart phone. They are not offering this plan anymore, and for the price I'm paying, they will have to pry it from my cold dead fingers.

For kicks, I asked a rep on the phone if I can in any way use my current plan with an iPhone (considering I'd buy it with no discount) and he said no, the only plans that will work are the "Combo plans for iPhone". Which is not great at all, since the rates for comparable 2 separate plans for iPhone would be about 3 times what I'm paying now.

So here is a question to all. Is that really so? Is there any workaround for this? Suppose I was even willing to pay extra for data or not use data at all, are there any options? (The rep said no, but I suppose that's what he's paid to do ;))

there are options - I was in the same boat, with an awesome voice plan. just came back with my new 3gs and I just added the data to my existing voice plan.

not sure if it matters but I am on a corp plan

How exactly did you do this? Just came to a Bell store, bought the iPhone and added it to your plan or what?

yes, the first bell world said I had to choose one of the iphone plans, so I said forget it. the second one I went to said that isn't true I could choose any of the smartphone plans or add data to my existing voice plan. ($25 for 500 or $30 for 1GB) The 16GB 3GS cost me $250.

If you need a contact in toronto, pm me.

I was also told by one Bell rep in PMall that I had to get a data and voice plan for $45 before I could purchase an iPhone. No iPhone if I stuck with my voice-only plan. I went to another place store in Brookfield Place and they said I would have to add $200 to the cost of the discounted iPhone if I didn't want any data with a voice plan.

I wound up getting an Omnia II instead.

I was also told that they are unable to block data access on their new smartphones so, if you don't have a data plan, make sure you turn off the HSPA data option in your phone.

People always make this mistake. (in your case you lucked out). With ANY service industry, you RARELY over-speak. Say the minimum needed, ESPECIALLY when you're getting a second-opinion. Reason is because sharing what you've been told from Person 1 can skew what person 2 may be about to tell you.

Go in cold., say what you have, and what you need., done deal.

This is what the Bell rep @ the Brookfield Place location said to me. I didn't really investigate much further because I was more interested in the Omnia II.

Can I buy an unlocked iPhone from these forums, and switch my Blackberry (which is on a 3 yr contract with Bell) for it? Or are these iPhones Bell have a different model...

To use an iPhone on the Bell network, you'll also need a Bell sim. From what the reps have told me, the iPhone offered by Bell is no different from the iPhone sold by Rogers, Fido, or Telus other than possible differences in software and being locked.

Hi I was wondering if we can keep our old number and plan if we are switching from a cdma phone. Also would I be able to activate a SE W810i on bell using a sim card? My problem is that my cdma phone is actually broken so i am using some really old cdma phone on my service.
