Can anybody recommend a website where you can submit a floorplan and have someone help you figure out ideal furniture configuration in a room?
We are tyring to figure out what furniture to buy for our future family room and can't figure out what combination of sofa/sectional/loveseat/accent chairs, coffee table, etc. would be best for the arrangement or the room.
I'm snooping through design photos but none I've come across so far show the same configuration as what we have.
I know it comes down to personal preference in the end but I'm sure there is an ideal placement of furniture, plants, lamps, etc for how our room is arranged. The only thing we know for sure is where the TV will go :)
We are hesitant to hire an interior decorator as all we need to know for now is which and where pieces should go so that we can direct our furniture shopping a bit better.
Thanks.

This company sells it service to large furniture companies, interior designers, builders, etc. I bought a 3 month subscription before we moved to our new house, it really was fun & easy to use. Double & triple check your room measurements or you will run into problems. This online service is likely even better now as it has been a couple of years since we used it.
Also, you can go onto most of the company's websites that are featured & search out their "Room Planner" function, although not as detailed as the full Icovia site it is free.
Try this one;

Look for the "room planner" button top right - beside the home button.
Hope this helps!

30 day trial. Takes a bit of getting used to but it works for putting furniture to scale

I was all thumbs it seemed at first but I kept playing around with it but it became second nature as I began using the mouse buttons to edit the furniture - much faster.
I measured my rooms, windows, doors along with the furniture I was thinking of placing in each room. Once I felt I had a workable, usable flowing plan for each room, I printed each out & when we moved in I gave all of our helpers printed plans so they had a visual plan where to place furniture & boxes of books. Worked really well except the for the first room I tried, messed up the actual room dimensions - of course made it larger than it was. It was the most critical room & we ended up having to dump office furniture into the garage & rework the plan later - That was a mess!!
I like maps, surveys & things so this program really appealed to me.
Hope it works out well for all of you!

I guess these programs would be alright for envisioning how things would look if placed in a certain way.
But I was more looking for advice on what would actually be recommended by a professional in terms of furniture placement for our family room.
North wall will have a large tv in the middle with windows on other side.
West wall has no windows.
South wall is more of a 1/2 or 2/3 long wall with a picture window (?) in it that looks onto the dining room. Also this wall accomodates an enterance way from the dining room.
East wall accommodates enterance from eat in kitchen.
I'm just wondering what the best set up for sofa/chairs/loveseat would be.
I'd think that the main sofa would go on the longest wall but the longest wall (west wall) is not directly opposite the TV. The "2/3" picture window wall is opposite the TV. So if we put the sofa here, what goes on the longer west wall....loveseat? Two armchairs?
