This is the lowest price without coupons or other offers, so far, to my knowledge.

Thanks, I must have missed that. Was that a local sale?
Are you sure it wasn't the 42B450 plasma, they've been hovering in that range at Costco for a while?

Nope, it was the LCD. It was in the Costco location at Burnaby, B.C. at least. $880 with a $100 instant coupon or something similar.

Thanks. I guess it wasn't priced the same here, or I missed it when it was.

It was $799 at the Sears boxing day last year, minus $20 coupon. I can tell that a TV deal is a good deal when it takes a year for the price to be matched :)
That made me regret my 720P serie 4 bought at The Brick in November 08 at $699 (still the lowest price ever)

More FS idiocy. Now the question, which is the F/U. The original $799 pricing or the change back to $879? The other "special", the PQ12 at $699, stayed.

Future Shop is calling this a price error. The $799 price that is. It will stay priced at $879.
If you really want one at $799, I would call in and raise a stink, or go to a store at opening tomorrow. The one that I was in today had the LN40B530 tagged at $799. Likely the others will too, and won't get to removing the $799 tag for a while in the morning, even if they've been sent a memo.

BTW FS still has the $799 price posted instore, in Burlington, ON.
I suspect the other FS's will be the same, for a while anyway.

At boxing day last year, it likely would be the LN40A530 or 550. The 2009 B models didn't come out until a few months later.

In store the price is still $799 with an expiry date of 11/4/09. So it seems that they are keeping the price for the day.

i've seen 240hz lcd tvs with NICE clear picture compared to 120hz but i'm not sure if the store owners messed around with settings to show a huge contrast lol

You could have gotten this a few weeks ago at BB with a PM and $100 CP for $999 without the warranty. I know, a lot of good that does you now.
If you were planning on getting a warranty anyway, it's not a bad deal.
You could also just take this deal around to FS, BB, Sears until they do better. Then give Telecity a last chance to beat your best price. If their return/exchange policy is any good?

Gibby's website says limited quantities so most likely PM will be rejected. I did not know that Sears has it on sale as well. PMing Sears would have been easier.

240Hz vs 120Hz has nothing to do with contrast. It's a difference in refresh rate, and reviews from both critics and "regular" people have said that even the difference between 60Hz and 240Hz is marginal on the best of days. Some have also said that the 240Hz that some manufacturers are claiming isn't even true 240Hz. It's more a method for manufacturers to mark up their products and continue to introduce new models every six months.
Also, if you've never even seen 60Hz then how can you say that it's "soo low"?
1080p and 60Hz is pretty much the sweet spot in terms of specs and price right now. I imagine that this Samsung 40" model will go on sale at $800 again some time down the road.

Do you get 30 days to exchange or refund if you don't like it for some reason?
I'm suprised that neither BB or FS would try to compete. Not being a wise a** but,
Maybe you were a bit too soft on them? Tell them you are buying this F'ing TV today, for this, so far, can you do better, or not. Talk to the managers not the drones, if you didn't already, of course. Some of those kids wouldn't take two steps sideways to sell a TV.

when i said contrast, i mean the literal term not the TV term lol.
but u answered my question, where there is NOT a huge noticeable difference.
someone said 60hz is fine for HD movies and gaming so i suppose its sufficient.

Sure, with all other things being equal, but they are NOT.
The highest-end LCD TVs are going to get the fastest and best video processors, the best and fastest response panels, and the newest motion-blur/etc. technology.
That's why the 240Hz Toshiba REGZA TV I bought looks about 10X as good as a base model Toshiba 1080p 60Hz model, and still looks better with 240Hz turned off. It's mostly the newest Toshiba video processor, combined with a better panel, but in order to get that, you need to buy a 240Hz TV.
Same with LG, Samsung, etc. - the best electronics are going into their top-end 120/240Hz TVs and there is a noticeable IQ difference, even if 120/240Hz is not the main reason.

I think we can all agree that the highest end models are will have the latest in tech in there, but the point was that paying the premium for 120Hz over 60Hz when no other considerations are made is marketing BS.
Hz is what's really being advertised right now, not contrast ratio or image processors. If a person doesn't know much about TVs then they may assume that the higher whatever number, the better, and worth the extra $1000 :(

But that's the whole point - in order to drive the 120Hz/240Hz, you need a better panel and a newer/more powerful video processor. Just by going to a 120Hz model, you are getting a better overall TV, with specs that are not even available in a 60Hz model.
If it was, I would buy a 60Hz HDTV and save the money, but the panels are a bit nicer with their higher-end TV and the video processors have to be more powerful and fully featured than a standard 60Hz model.
A good example is the standard Toshiba 60Hz model, which uses a basic 8-bit video processor on an 8-bit panel, while the 240Hz REGZA features a 14-bit PixelPure 5G processor on a 10-bit panel - and there is a noticeable difference, trust me.
I realize what you're trying to say, but 120/240Hz is not like a "leather seats" option that can be easily added to a vehicle - it's a different model with higher-end specs to begin with.

The question about them, is are they authorized dealers and are these warranted in Canada?
Unless you are feeling really confident, I would try to get one of the majors to PM their price, especially with BB and FS offering returns/PP until Jan 3rd. It might take a phone pic of the store tag, unless they have these prices on a website.

Here is the Toshiba (http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0770HDS0010121903&catid=).
