is the toro 1800 any good for 359? I always thought you would have to spend about 700+ for a good snow thrower

Excellent price! Even better, take this flyer, pricematch at Rona or Lowe's or Home Hardware and they beat by 10%. Not 10% of the difference, but 10%. So you will be able to get it for $320.

Stocks run out fast, gogogo!

The Electric Shovel is pretty useless. I bought one a few years ago and found that using a regular shovel was faster and more effective.

The mini snow thrower is ok but light duty. My neighbour bought one of these and I laugh everytime he uses it. It constantly gets stuck because the wheels are too small.

I would only consider the $1200 one as that will clear heavy snow and not get stuck in it either.

so after looking Lowes

http://www.lowes.ca/aboutus/trust_lowes.aspx

they will not price match with 10%, but will just match since if the competitor is a % off, they match, unless it was just a regular price

and lowes has it for 378

Home hardware isnt better, they wont even match at some of the stores. some will, some wont beat by 10% either

Rona is pretty bad too, wont give 10% off either cause of the way the ad is done by home depot

guess you gotta find a dumb csr to get extra 10% off

The toro 1800 is probably the best electric snowthrower out there. $299 in the US. so $350 or under is a good price here. Perfect for a small driveway like mine. But I think I will pass like last year and get the shovelling-exercise.

btw people who own and review the 1800 say that works great and a bigger machine is cumbersome and unweildy.
people who own the $1200 monsters will tell you that the 1800 and all such is garbage.

Tried the Rona in Cambridge - they were going to PM the HD Toro Power Shovel ad with another 10% off but could not locate the few they supposedly had on hand. The seasonal person seemed knowledgeable and confidently stated their 10% policy would be from the ad price. She called the Kitchener location who had stock on the floor, but when I went there they refused to PM the sale price plus another 10% off. I appealed to the Manager, who said their PM policy is only on regular price, and would not budge even after I read through their PM policy (on the wall behind her) and pointed out that it made no mention of regular price.

Looks like they are very inconsistent at applying policy, which ever it happens to be. Just have to hit the right store.

Well I didn't think about RONA Pming, so I went to Lowes. They had already reacted to HD's price and had signs up with 10% off their $378 price. Came to $340.20. I tried Pming that price with HD but they will only match Lowes price not beat it by 10% because it's not their regular price. Now I see some getting it for only $320.xx from Rona >:( I guess I'll just be happy to get it for the price I did.

Having read all the reviews last year, I think that the Toro is a better machine. The Snow Joe seems to have some quality control issues. Some have had great experiences while others have had nothing but troubles. The Toro has pretty consistent good reviews. I would have loved to get a Toro but money was an issue as well as finding one in stock. I ended up buying a Snow Joe for $100 at Walmart's end of season clearance last year. It's sitting in the garage waiting for the first snow fall so I can't comment on its performance.

I went to Rona in Belleville ON, and at first they wouldn't PM because I only had a copy of the on-line ad with me. So I went across the street to Home Depot and brought back their paper flyer advertising 10% off all snowblowers.

Rona PM'd but would not give an extra 10% off. I bought it from RONA anyways.

There seems to be confusion about Rona's price match guarantee with different stores/CSRs offering just PM or others offer PM plus 10% off.

So I wrote to Rona to find out what their policy is. Will post if I get respose.

Went to Lowe's this morning. They also had 10% off all snow blowers. Original price for the Toro 1800 was $374 (?) - 10% = around $340.2.

Bought and took receipt to pricematch at HD to get extra 10% off. Came to around $310 + tax

I went looking for the Toro 1800 the other day at an HD in Calgary, but they didn't have any...and the girl said they likely wouldn't get anymore until AFTER Christmas. Not sure if I believe her or not, but just in case, I just ordered one online. Even with the shipping, it came to $400 taxes included.

It may not be the best deal out there, but at least I'll have something to clear the snow this year, so I'm happy! :cheesygri

thinking a way to pick it up though, I don't think it fit into my trunk anyhow.

I bought the Toro 1800 from HD last week on their don't pay until 2011 event for $399 + tax. They had to order it in - estimated end of November delivery.

Went back today to price match and beat based on HH Santa's Helper Flyer. at $359.97. With the extra 10% "beat" the price ended up at $320.07 + tax. Saved $89.19 including taxes.

I think this one is similar to the little SYLVANIA that I saw at Walmart here yesterday, but it was only a 9AMP and cost $118.
I was wondering how it would compare to the little TORO too..

I think I am just going to continue with a shovel...it's a good workout!

The Toro is 27 lbs - about 1/2 the weight. Both rated power at 12 AMPs. The Sears just seems to be "clunky" looking to me.

Picked my Toro 1800 up at Home Depot yesterday and just finished assembly. The chute bolts can strip the plastic chute square holes if you're not careful. It started on the first pull ... er ... squeeze.

Just waiting for the first snow.

The Toro 1800 is mostly plastic. The electric Craftsman has both plastic and steel.....why this is twice the weight of the 1800.

The Toro 1800 is probably the highest rated electric snow blower that is available in Canada and the US. The Craftsman looks pretty new to the market I think.

I took the Toro on Saturday from the HomeDepot and got 15% off from PM because of Rona. Before that I went to Sears and took a look at the Craftsman one, it seems to me that the Toro 1800 can take a little bit thicker snow compared to Craftsman one, also the Toro 1800 has very good reviews. But the Craftsman has bigger wheels.

Can't comment on the snowthrower itself, but the Craftsman is just a rebadge of the Murray electric Sears has been selling for the past few years. I think it gets ok reviews (happy with my Toro 1800 from last season for what it's worth - it was $297+tx after PM last year and I got an extra $20 on top in Rona gift cards and of course Air Miles).
