Trailer seems to be online now:

It's definitely not Toy Story or Finding Nemo, but looks interesting.
Opinions?

Looks awesome, and is written and directed by Brad Bird (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0083348/), nuff said!

Iron Giant still one of my favorite animated flicks..And his years on the simpsons were arguably their best!

So, not seeing shrek then? cause shrek 2 is out next week and this one isnt out til november..

I'm in no rush to see shrek 2 though, the first one had some pretty weak jokes.. Is it treasonous to say that mike meyers just isnt very funny? heh

I saw the trailer for this movie when Finding Nemo opened last summer. I damn near killed myself laughing. LOVED the trailer.

Recently, I stood transfixed in a Disney store where they were spooling the trailer. It comes out just after my birthday, and ever since the date was announced, I have declared to my family that they can take me to dinner and to see Incredibles.

Pixar is my all time favourite animation studio. The wit is clever and the storylines have a mass appeal.

Oh, I'll be seeing Shrek 2 as well (hey, I have kids). But I've been waiting since last summer to see this one, and I'll be making it a BIG occasion when it opens.

The trailer grows on me each time I see it - I'd love to see this on a big screen in a theater - maybe when Shrek 2 hits, if I end up seeing it. With movie prices nowadays, the only two things I saw last year were Finding Nemo and ROTK.

Umm, movie prices have thankfully gone down.
Anyways, I'm a sucker for super-hero type movies esp. ones that have humour. I'll definitely watch this (and buy the WS DVD).

I'm surprised there's hardly any hype for this movie here.
I watched it and I highly recommend it. Scored quite highly (97%) on Rottentomatoes as well. I read it's Pixar's first PG movie (everthing else previous was Rated G).
Brad Bird (the creator/director/producer) is just awesome at telling a modern story. The voice cast is superb as well. Sam Jackson should spend the rest of his life doing voicework :)

I went to see it yesterday.
It was a very very good movie and I highly suggest everyone to go see it!

I also saw the preview for their next movie, Cars, which doesn't look good at all.

Nope. Both parties decided to renew the agreement so Disney will keep marketing Pixar and Pixar's left to do the storytelling.
Win/Win for both sides.
I LUV the movie.

I also love the line: "You sly fox you, you let me do the monologue'ing"

Just wondering where you read that... I'd be curious to read it myself but I couldn't find anything on that.

That aside, Cars I believe is the last Pixar/Disney collaboration under the original contract. There's a preview for Cars if you go see the Incredibles (which is excellent by the way...).

Yeah I haven't heard that either. I wasn't expecting anything with Eisner still at Disney.

QBert
Nov 11th, 2004, 12:09 AM
Yeah, it doesn't look like there's any contract renewal, which could explain Disney's attempt to make their own CG files (Chicken Little or something like that) and their threats to mine the existing franshises to death (e.g. Toy Story 3).

Cars doesn't look great but it's only a teaser, and John Lassiter is doing it so it deserves some benefit of the doubt. As for the short that was included, I think it was different from other Pixar work - it didn't get much of a reaction from the audience (I think my favorite packaged short is Geri's Game), but it was ok.

As for the Incredibles - absolutely awesome. It's got some great character moments - just subtle things in their reactions and dialogue snippets which really make a difference in how much empathy they elicit. It's the first Pixar movie dealing with people but this is proof that there isn't some preset formula that makes a good movie. The technology animation - so cool....everything from Syndrome's island fortress to Mr. Incredible's convertible to Edna Mo's lab.

I think this movie was not as well advertised as previous efforts (maybe because of the fallout, or maybe because it's PG), and it's probably going to get trampled by the "Polar Express", but I think it's destined to become a classic, like "The Iron Giant", which I now feel compelled to see.

This one is definitely being added to my DVD collection!

currently Pixar is batting 6 for 6, i wouldnt let a small teaser lower my expectations for Cars, which wont be out for another whole year!

for all the pixar movies, i rank them as:
1) Incredibles
2) Toy Story 2
3) Toy Story
4) Finding Nemo
5) Monsters Inc
havent watched a bug's life yet...

how would you guys rank them?

Yet to watch the Incredibles. Will do so this weekend, likely. That or Briget Jones' Diary 2. But anyway, of all the Pixar, I'd rank them as

A Bug's Life
Toy Story
Finding Nemo
Monster Inc.
Toy Story 2

I loved the short that came with the Incredibles - hilarious, kitschy, and charming. . .

The movie was also my favorite Pixar. I loved the others, but didn't really connect with them as well as with this one. The whole story, and how everything tied together from the beginning to end, was amazing.

Disney and Pixar have had no contract renewal AFAIK, but under the terms of their current contract, Disney still had the rights to market X number of films still under development, which included the Incredibles, and at least one or two more....I can't remember exactly how many.

Sadly, they also have the rights to market and distribute any sequels of movies already made. :(

QBert

The problem with Disney is that they think "How can I market this" first in all things. Pixar is more interested in developing characters and plotlines, even if they're not inherently marketable - like in Monster's Inc., which doesn't feature the cute and cuddly that Disney expects. I suppose Pixar's success gave them free reign, but when Disney takes over, expect movies that sell product, which betrays the original creative vision.

As for Shrek 2 winning an Oscar - sorry, I don't think it deserves it. If it was a live action drama (like the normal best picture contenders) then the characters in the Incredibles appear to have more context and depth than Shrek 2. Don't get me wrong - it's a good movie and highly entertaining - just not the best in my opinion. They'll also have to deal with Polar Express - not sure how that's going to pan out although reviews are surprisingly mixed.

The Polar Express IMO is an entirely kiddie movie. I can watch the amazing Incredibles over and again thanks to the smart humor but the PE I can only bring myself to watch once.
The technology is awesome though, I was quite impressed when I was watching the neo-rotoscope tech they were using (although like the Final Fantasy movie, the facial expressions could use some help, the lip movements sometimes did not line up correctly). Plus the "storybook" pantone look they used is quite appealing.
However, there is hardly any humor in this film for adults. The nerdy kid is EXTREMELY annoying. Love/hate for me on this one but I'm sure the kids will love it. I hated the one-after-another contrived "suspenseful" situations the train was in the first half of the film. It got boring really quickly.

Disney's animation is gonna flop big time. They didn't even have any good 2D animation the in recent now, let alone 3D. Pixar, in teh mean time, can find probably brains to write the story. They have the facility and technology in Berkley, all they need is the a story. I think Pixar will do fine even with the breakup. Disney's animation will suffer, big time

Pixar was a major player that kept Disney afloat with new characters to the entire Disney lineup. Without the Pixar animation characters, all they have are Mickey, Donald, Goofy, etc... And with the current generation, it doesn't appeal to them as much. It only works with the 20+ old people who still remember Mickey and Donald in their childhood years.

Disney trying to branch out into their own 3D animation is going to flop in my opinion.. They don't have the experience and the "spark" that Pixar has.

And with them trying to bring out sequals to licences they own, oh boy. That's going to suck. Look at Aladdin 2 and the other stories they tried to rebring.. Lion King 2 was good but you know they've run out of ideas and are trying to milk out the remaining franchises they have..

I think they should continue their tradition of looking at different stories from different cultures. (brother bear, aladdin, mulan, etc.) Or, bring out the live stories like Three Musketeers..

Saw this last night and it was great. Definitely my favourite pixar movie. Didn't expect it be that good plus it was almost 2 hrs for an animation. Definitely will be a sequel as the end of the film left that open.

Definitely deserves an 8.5 rating on imdb.

I saw this last weekend, I thought it was great! Really well done animation and the storyline was well thoughtout. Didn't like the short at the start though too much, my favourite is still the snowman in the snowglobe one.

Yeah Edna, was my favourite, she really did remind you on Mrs. Swan. :D

I for one, welcome Disney's attempt at making sequels. Here's why:

Have you ever seen Dinosaur? That was Disney's prototype/test to see if it could do 3D animation. Although technically stunning for the time, it was a huge disappointment. It barely broke even, and the story was subpar. Disney needed Pixar. That's why it hasn't attempted another 3D feature on its own for 5 years now. I want Disney to make these sequals b/c I want them to fall flat on their face. With Pixar's stock flying high I think this move will solidify Pixar as the new Disney. If anything, the failure of Toy Story 3 and others will lead to Disney begging for a new deal from Pixar. I have a Pixar bias, of course, b/c Pixar's president is Steve Jobs - who is Apple's CEO and everyone knows my Mac bias.

Oh, and BTW, I saw the Incredibles and I agree that it was the best Pixar to date and one of the finest movies I have seen. The dialogue was really well done.

I think it may have been too long for the 4-8 year old group. It is Pixar's longest animation to date (nearly 2 hours) plus if they're not into the superhero thing, this won't hold 'em for long.

The movie clearly targeted older crowd other than the little kids. I was particularly impressed with the details about a family. Road trip, how young brother/sister always argue for nothing, at the dinner table, just little things. I read that they had a team of 20 people or something working on hair alone. While impressive, sometimes the hair didn't flow evry well with the motion, I found. Just nit-picking, obviously. I might have to agree that it's the best Pixar movie to date for me.

Without spoiling much, does anyone hear anything [b]if[b/] they are gonna make a sequel on that? I'm speculating, and wondering. Don't read too much into it. I found it interesting how they have another villain at the end, and they actually put him on the profile on their website. Again, not wanting to spoil so no naming names from me.

Favourite character -- a toss-up between Edna Mode and Frozone

I thought they were mocking/imitating Anna Sui more so than Ms Swan. :P (Anna Sui on the rigth, straight from her website (http://www.annasui.com))

Yes, read about that from previous post. I'm hoping that they'll flop with the 3D animation and then re-engage with Pixar, like bfurtado said. The next Disney 3D looks pretty bad (a teaser trailer at The Incredibles. No, not Cars, the other one). If they were to try it, try it on Toy Story 3, flop, realize their mistake. And then get back with Pixar to make sequel of The Incredibles. :)

I saw it this weekend with my 3 kids. I thought it was great. Great animation, very funny and a good story. Even my 2 year old watched it without a movement, except to go to the bathroom once.

The 2 hours went by very fast. A definite buy and definitly worth the price. Thsi is hwo a movie should be, not the boring POS one I saw earlier on the weekend "In The Bedroom" Check my other post concerning that movie

You will like this even if you dont have kids. Definitly funny.

Unfortunately, Shrek 2 took the People's Choice Award for favorite animated feature this year - doesn't know if that will reflect on the Incredibles' Oscar hopefuls since the competition is the exact same. (Both are great movies, but the Incredibles seemed to have more heart).

I'm generally not a big fan of sequels since most are made with $$$ in mind first, and a real desire to continue the story second. Toy Story 2 was a direct to video release originally before Disney changed its mind last minute for a theatrical release. Then again, TS2 had a real story to to complement the first one.

"The Incredibles" is set for theatrical release in February in Hong Kong and Disney has already set its voice cast for the Cantonese dub which will include veteran actors like Francis Ng, Eric Kot, Amy Kwok (Lau Ching-Wan's wife...coincidentally, Lau Ching-Wan is the voice of Marlin in the cantonese dub of "Finding Nemo"), Stephanie Cheng, and Ronald Cheng (no-brainer.....judging from the comedic routine and the nature of his voice, you'd already know he will be Syndrome)

from USA Today....

Super! The Incredibles arrives on DVD March 15 ($29.99, also on VHS) with an all-new animated short that reveals the latent powers of Jack-Jack, the baby of the animated superhero family.

Jack-Jack's Attack chronicles "what takes place at the house with (babysitter) Kari and Jack-Jack while the rest of the family is on the way to the island or on the island," Pixar DVD producer Ann Brilz says. As the story plays out, the toddler reveals his latent powers.

Other extras include an alternate opening, deleted scenes, bloopers and commentary from director Brad Bird, Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) and Frozone (Samuel L. Jackson). A making-of-the-film featurette began as soon as Bird came to Pixar to start work on the film. "When he walked in the first time, he carried a camera, and it was rolling the whole time," Brilz says. "We had this great body of footage to draw from."

awesome, commentary with Brad Bird, Nelson and Jackson. :D

Gee, the time between theatrical release and DVD release are getting so short. I remember I had to wait more than a year before I got my hands on the Toy Story 2 DVD (of course it was the ultimate toy box set, so it was worth the wait). I hope they don't skimp on the extras to make the date.

But the short sounds cool though.
