Nissan Intelligent Key Cover/Jacket

So I've had my 2009 Nissan Altima for a while now, and one thing that pisses me off about it is the design of the Intelligent Key. Atleast once a day, the panic button will accidentally be pressed (while the keys are in my pocket), thus making the car's horn to go off. A few times, it's even opened the front windows of the car a little bit (holding the unlock button for 3 seconds opens the windows) or popped the trunk. (luckily neither of those things happened when it's been raining)

Anyone else experiencing this issue? From what I've been reading, people who keep the keys in their pants pocket on a keychain with other keys on it have the most frequent 'accidental' button presses. My fiance who keeps her keys in her purse doesn't have this issue. I even swapped keyfobs with her just in case my keyfob might have been more sensitive to button presses or something... but that did nothing.

I remember reading on a forum somewhere that there are leather cases for the Intelligent Keys that make the buttons harder to press by accident (basically by raising the edges around the buttons).

I've only been able to find rubber/silicone ones, but don't like those because they'll pick up lint/dust in no time. I'd prefer leather or something else. Does anyone know where I can find these? Thanks.

I have the same key fob for my Infiniti (with 4 real keys on the ring), and have not had any issues to date. Nothing other than my keys ever goes in that pocket - no coins, bills, etc. Maybe your pants are too tight :lol:.

Never had a problem with mine, except accidentally locking the doors when I had a wrench in my pocket with it, once.

I can also state that it's fine going through the washer/dryer... I've done that four times already.

Nope I don't think my pants are too tight. :lol: I wear jeans most of the time, not super baggy or tight, but around the middle (comfortable looseness).

I keep my keychain by itself in my pocket, so same as you with no coins, bills, paper, gum, wallet, phone, etc. I do have more stuff on my keychain though, including another keyfob/starter and key for our other car.

And I haven't had any problems with randomly pushing buttons on the other keyfob on my keychain (just the Nissan one).

I ordered two of these. It didn't help and actually affected my Intelligent Key's battery life?!?

I ended up throwing them out and learned to be more careful.

I adjusted the position of the keys/fobs on my keychain two days ago, trying to optimize the position of the Nissan fob so that other keys would less likely push the buttons in. So far, I haven't had any accidental button presses. Fingers are crossed, but changing the layout of my keychain seems to have helped so far.

I still haven't had any accidental key presses since changing my keychain around. To answer some PM's I got on this, basically all I did was put all of my keys on one keychain loop, and put the 2 fobs (starter and Nissan Intelligent Key) on another loop, then attached the fob loop and key loop together. The fobs have their buttons facing away from eachother, and the button sides are adjacent to the key loop. I also reduced the number of keys on my keychain, and now I have a work keychain and a personal keychain (the one with my car keys on it).

How often do you recharge your fob? Got my Altima in January and I think it's only been charged once for about an hour. The extra one has never been charged.

I don't ever want to have a car without intelligent key. I never have to go digging in my purse trying to find the keys. Nor fiddle with a key in dark parking lots.

Charged? It's not rechargeable... It has a battery that might need to be replaced after many years of use, like any other fob. I've had mine for three years and there's no sign the battery is running low.

Never charged mine before. I think it's just like any other keyfobs, you need to replace the battery when it dies (no recharging).

When the battery is completely dead, you get into the car by taking the physical key out of the fob and unlocking the door. Then you stick the fob into the slot below the dash. It doesn't recharge the battery in the fob (you still have to replace the battery), but it allows you to start the car when the battery is dead.

The slot allows the cirtuitry in the keyfob to operate by inductive power if none is provided by the fob's battery. This allows the ignition sequence to complete, since there's no physical key mechanism (unlike the door locks.)
