I recently started fixing my diet and I am curious how fatty jerk chicken is.
I have been told that there is lots of fats in the sauce and its really oily but I never believed it.
Thanks for the help

Well the spice is mostly hot peppers and herbs so there shouldn't be any "fat content" in the seasoning.
The fat and cholestoral would come from the dark meat, same as any other form of grilled chicken you'd be eating..
If you ate white meat jerk chicken I'd be inclined to think it would be low.

It's the skin, that's where most of the fat is at. It is roasted on a grill so that lessens the fat as it drips away during cooking.

Read a jerk sauce label and see. You know whether chicken is fatty or not. I'd be inclined to say go for it, it's good and tasty!

As a general rule, if it's takeout food, it's almost always high in calories. but you probably already knew this :)

Its pretty lean if you get the white meat.
IT really depends on the cut.
Legs and theigh have high fat content.
The Breast are really lean.
It also depends on the style... There is a guyanese/trini style that is a bit more stewed...so theres grease thats floating around.
But the Jamaican style is more grilled.
The sodium content is high depending on how they season it.

I cook it all the time. I am half Jamaican. I am also a very lazy cook. Don't know why you are worried about the fat content when its just chicken breasts with herb seasonings on it. This is the easiest authentic recipe:
Buy "Walkerswood Traditional Jamaican Jerk Seasoning (Hot and Spicy)" and apply to breast. You can also marinate it in the refrigerator if you want it hotter but it is not necessary. Bake for 30 mins.
I usually season my breasts ahead of time and place each one in freezer bags, thaw it out the night before.
I buy Walkerswood in a store called New Asia in Brampton. Doesn't seem like it contains any preservatives.
Trust me, after this people will think you are also Jamaican. :)
