Actually cook books and Disney books are on for even deeper discounts temporarily at the moment (cookbooks end Nov 06, so to take advantage of free shipping plust that promo you need to order before then).. all the details are below...

I know someone is thinking whats the big deal with free shipping, you can get that anywhere if you buy enough books!? True, but BCO usually is half the price of places like Amazon, I know my kid is big into Vampires this year, buying some of the Buffy novels, most are 11.67 on Amazon.ca and 4.99 at BCO... without the free shipping doesn't work out that great but with it sure does...

These are bargain books so it may not look as new. Do they mark it with a big marker? How do the books look compared to amazon?

This does not apply to marketplace items does it?
I had a great experience with bookscloseouts before. Ordered a university textbook at 20% of cost of new, arrived in almost new condition. Also a pocket dictionary for $4, ($25 new).

90% of mine have been pristine, save for the black mark, a couple have been quite tattered. They're usually good at marking those as "Scratch and Dent". For the price this place is terrific.

Yes, these are all remainder books with BIG black ink line on the outer pages.
Do not go in looking at these as gifts for anyone but your closest family members, as they're just inked-up returns that are *required* to be sold that way. Many times they look "used" probably due to people flipping through them at stores.
I buy them sometimes for my kids as reading material, but I'd never use them as gifts for their friends.

They're located in St. Catherines, so there is no duty. I've ordered a few hundred dollars worth of books over the past few years, great place to get cheap books. They're not always in perfect condition and all have a black mark on the bottom or top, but besides that, nothing else.

I see some books that have "Library Binding" does that mean that the covers will be blank with no image?

I just bought a bunch of books and they charged me only GST (I live in Alberta). Seems like an incredible deal to me but will have to see the conditions of these books. Lot better selection than the remaindered stacks I normally encounter. Thanks OP!

This is where I buy large print books for my Grandma. I can get tons of them for anywhere from $2-$6. Large prints are notoriously hard to find in bookstores with very limited selection and if you do find them usually pretty expensive (upwards of $15-$20 each). I can easily order a case to keep Grandma supplied for months for less than $100 from here. They always ship pretty quickly and condition overall is excellent. Thanks OP!

No need to be scared if you're buying them for personal consumption. I've bought quite a bit from them, and the only real 'condition" issue has been sheer age and paper deterioration. Some books have simply been sitting in a warehouse for a VERY long time.
But most are near-perfect, and I was simply making the point that these are *not* "gift-level for strangers" as the books are ink-marked remainder copies. No resale value either, as again, they're inked up remainder copies.
But if you just want some cheap and disposable reading material, then I recommend them.

I think I'm going to wait and see if Bookcloseouts has a Black Friday sale. I remember last year they had 50% off books plus free shipping I think?

I ordered some books as they seemed like a good deal. Shipping was really fast! Only 3 days to receive my stuff. I was disappointed with the books though. They look really old and it wasn't even in the scratch and dent department. The black marks were BIG and excessive with yellow pages. I want to return some of them but it will fall under $35. I wonder if I'll have to pay the shipping then it won't be such a good deal after all.
I probably won't buy from them anymore. :(

I only had one situation where a book (not a scratch and dent) arrived in a very bad condition. I contacted them about it. They credited my account for the cost of the book. ie essentually free. No fuss no muss.

BTW, if you're in southern Ontario, their warehouse/bookstore for the public is in Thorold, close to St. Catherines - it's HUGE & well worth a visit, so if you're a real book affectionado, give yourself plenty of time, having checked store closing times in advance of your trip.

My order just arrived and they are all in mint condition - some have the small black magic marker line across the bottom page edge, some don't. They ARE xmas gifts for family, but they're all of the 'lie around on Xmas day digesting turkey and have something mindless to read' stocking stuffer variety. Trivia books, that kind of thing. They have a great selection by David Feldman.

Thanks OP! I ordered on November 4th and everything came today. All but one book had a black mark on it. Everything came in better than expected quality.
BTW. For those of you who have Swagbucks accounts, this qualifies as a Shop & Earn retailer. If you don't know what Swagbucks is, please go here: http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/swagbucks-free-gift-cards-other-prizes-689380/

Just to add, in response to the person disappointed with their order, I just received mine and I'd have to say that the books are in pretty much the condition I would expect them to be in since they are remaindered, which is decent but maybe a bit handled. Some are in excellent condition and even the ones labeled 'Scratch & Dent' are in much better condition than a lot of used ones I buy.
So, bought for the first time from them, am really happy, and would do it again & consider recommending them to others!

Grandma happily reports her box of books arrived very quickly and in terrific shape! :cheesygri I inspected them myself last weekend and most were in like-new condition.
