Hey everyone I'm going to honolulu from Jan 5th to 15th. I was considering booking a hotel on HotWire.com however I don't like the fact that you don't know which hotel it is.

Any advice on getting a *nice* resort? (4-5 star) at a decent price? ($150-250/night).

First time there, so any other tips would be appreciated too :)

Thanks in advance,

You may want to try this site to better help you find a hotel on Hotwire/Priceline.

The priceline hotel list in the resort category is as follows:

Sheraton Royal Hawaiian Waikiki
Moana Surfrider, a Westin Resort & Spa (formerly Sheraton)
Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach
Sheraton Waikiki Hotel
Hyatt Regency Waikiki Resort & Spa
Marriott Waikiki Beach & Spa

Also in the Waikiki Marina zone, the only resort is Hilton Hawaiian Village so if you bid this zone, you will get this hotel if it's available

All of these are pretty decent hotels. If there's a hotel that you must have, there are sales from time to time

Don't use hotwire or priceline then. Book directly with the hotel you like.

If you don't need luxury hotels, there are lots of 2* to 3* hotels at reasonable price. Waikiki is not more expensive than most large American cities.

The first time we went there, we stayed at the cheapest place we could find. a hotel called Waikiki Gateway hotel for $70 a night. this included free continental breakfast (pineapple, mini croissants, juice, coffee, yogurt. good enough for breakfast) and free wireless internet. I think they also have free parking if you book online and plan to rent a car.

It was obviously nothing special, but we spent so much time away from our room, we would have felt ripped off paying $200 a night for a nice room we hardly ever used (exactly what we did in Kona later that week>:().

It was a 5-10 minute walk to the main beach, and right along the bus routes for travel to other far away places ($20 gets you an unlimited 4-day bus pass) like diamond head, hanauma bay and pearl harbour.

We are heading back in March and have booked rooms at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulanai (sp?) hotel for $119 per night (still available online i think). again, one block away from the beach but closer to the center of the strip.

Rent a convertible and drive around the island. I was lucky enough that they upgraded my regular rental to convertible for free. Drove around the island with top down the whole time. Sooooo nice.

We used Priceline for our Honolulu stays and got the Sheraton for 4 nights and the Hyatt for three. All of them were 99 dollar bids and were great. Hard to beat and we upgraded for 25 dollar a night at the Hyatt for a great Ocean room. I used biddingfortravel to scope out a bidding price... Enjoy Hawaii

In Oahu, try to go to the Polynesian Cultural Center. Can buy an Entertainment book and use the coupon.

Try renting a car to drive around, to the Pali Lookout, Honolulu downtown. We also went to the Dole Planatation, which wasn't that special.

Walk/climb up to Diamond Head and enjoy the scenery. You'll be in paradise.
