I have some questions about Futureshop shipping policies because I am not certain about them from what I hear from FS. Besides I trust RFD members more then futureshop salespeople.
I'll be purchasing a new 55" TV problem is I need it delayed delivery for 6 months until I move into my next home.
- FS can delay delivery for 4 months max from the warehouse but the grey area is when the store receives the product can they hold it for a month or so extra at there store location. Salesperson says yes I want to verify this. What is there liability if my set is damaged?
- Do return policies (30 day guarantee) apply starting from when I purchase the product in-store or when the product leaves the warehouse or when the I take receipt of product when it gets to my home?
- For the 1st year I have manufacturers warranty if the TV has blemish/damage or problem when the TV IS DELIVERED to me? Can they replace the TV?
- What if the TV is discontinued do you provide a refund or exchange for TV of equal or greater worth within a year?
Thanks.

If you are not going to use the TV for 6 months, why are you buying it now? The logical thing would be to purchase the tv after you move into your house, that way you get a better tv, new technology, and much cheaper price.

The Sony XBR8 is being discontinued. I like that set and its the only tv I know that has multi-led locally dimmed backlighting.

Unless its a must have TV, wait for boxing day and odds are you'll get it quite a bit cheaper (tho you do run the risk of others going for the same deal and the TV going OOS)
For the TV warranty question, i suggest you phone Sony customer service to see what they say. I suspect the warranty starts after you receive the unit instead of the purchase date but some warranty do start at the purchase date so it really depends on company policy.
For BB storage... honestly i think this situation is one that not many (if any) RFDers have dealt with so unless you get an insider, you probably won't get a correct answer. Your best option (or at least an alternative) is to phone FS customer service (not a sales person as some would say just about anything to get a sale). That way you probably will get the best (or at least most honest answer from FS) possible. If possible try to get it in writing that they'll hold the unit for 6 months because if you paid for the TV and need them to hold it for 6 months, you will be out of luck for any chargeback possibility (its a great leverage).
Honestly tho, i don't see why you want them to hold on the unit for 6 months. Why not have it setup at your current location, enjoy it for ~5 months then paid to have it moved to your new location? I mean the entertainment value of the TV for 5 months should be well worth the moving expenses.

What makes you think this model won't be replaced with an even better one (and probably, in 6 months, an even lower price)?

Thanks I'll talk to Customer service. At my current place I don't have the room for it. I'd rather Futureshop hold the liability of the TVs storage versus it being potentially damaged when I move.

Because the economy is in the toilet right now. Sony has released the XBR9 which uses CCFL backlighting and the XBR10 is Edge Lit LED - both are inferior tech compared to local dimming.
Multi-LED Local Dimming is expensive to manufacture. They might eventually build one in 2011 but I rather not wait that long.
