I am not talking about Costco where they sell hot dogs and sandwiches.

When I was in Milwaukee a few years ago, we had a reservation in a restaurant but by the time we got to the restaurant, it was closed (Chicago traffic).

Anyway, I stopped by the grocery store to ask about decent restaurants in the area and the guy working there said they have food court inside. I haven;t seen anything like that in Toronto. You basically get 5-6 counters (similar to Mandarin) where you pick up different food and then pay to the cashier. I think food selection was great there, and we were able to go to grocery store to buy whatever wasn't freshly cooked (e.g. yogurts, cheese, etc.). The store was quite big, I'd say the size of a typical Loblaws store.
I've seen similar arrangement in a few of small stores in Toronto (but with not much of freshly cooked food though), but never in supermarket-sized store.

At some Loblaws / Superstores you can get fresh foods, and then eat them at a small food court seating type area upstairs.

Wegman's in the WNY area does. Everything from sushi to a variety to salads and subs to pizza by the slice or whole. Their newest is to basically build your own individual meals on a divided plate similar to a frozen dinner...

Sounds perfect for the road trip stop.

Is it something like this:
http://www.wegmans.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?categoryId=280911&storeId=10052&catalogId=10002&langId=-1

Do they have tables to sit down?
Do you know if they have this set up in Syracuse stores as well (should classify as WNY)? Or does this vary between individual stores?

Too bad they are closed then...

All of the Whole Foods locations in Manhattan, except for Chelsea (24th St.) have seating areas where you can take your meal (hot bar, salad bar, sushi, pizza, etc). Just a warning that the Columbus Circle hot bar has really gone downhill, but I'm told the new 2nd Ave one is spectacular.

Check them out in other cities too, I'm sure it's the same.

+1 for Wegmans

My friend took me to a Wegmans for a sub in Herndon Virginia and I was
thinking "what's so great about a supermarket sub?" but holy crap...I'm still
thinking of how good that sub was. Whatever you do...don't get the
foot long unless you're already the size of a normal American

If they have the prepared food there is probably a seating area.

T&T Scarborough location(Middlefield and Steeles) has an actual large size foodcourt inside the supermarket. The good thing is this placed isn't packed like the one at Warden and Steeles.

Yes there are tables at Wegman's. It's actually set up as a small bistro area. They even have an outdoor patio when the weather is good. It should be all stores but you can pull up the flyer for specific stores on the site.
