Nikon 18-55mm VR Kit lense. How much is it really worth?

Hi all,

For the past couple weeks i've been trying to selling my kit lense for the D60. I've looked around on the internet, amazon.ca, pricegrabber, ebay, etc. and they all have it priced around $150-170 + shipping + taxes.

So i'm selling it for $150 and people have been messaging me saying that they can get it for $100 + Free shipping NEW!!

What is it really worth? Lense and Body were bought August 15/09!

Are these people trying to lowball me? What is the price of this lense at Henry's anyone know?

I know that Henrys would give you $85-$95 for this lens. $125 + shipping should be a good price. At anything less than $100, I would rather keep it as a backup lens.

I dont think people are willing to even spend like $80 for this lens... it's pretty crap.

Hard to sell because people would get it with the body as a kit when they start out. And when they move on to become more into the hobby they'd want something better than the kit lens.

You'll sell it eventually just not quickly. Someone will come along who wants something cheap and light for traveling etc etc.

I wouldn't buy a kit lens for anymore then 60% of retail used, and that's if I wanted a kit lens which I don't and I'd assume to same of other potential owners. Really your only market is people who only bought a body and buying on budget, and even then they would save by buying both as a kit. 100-120$ is about where this would fall to be in a sellable range. It's really up to how long you want to wait to see it sell.

I haven't bothered to sell my Sony kit lens, not sure if there is a point to do so; I'd rather keep it and use it to help sell my A200 as a kit if I end up upgrading. You should think of that route too.

I just purchased one for 120 on kijiji.

prior to that, a lot of people were reluctant to let it go for under 140ish...

I think 120 is fair, as they go for 160+tax new. (mine was close to bnib)

It's cheap, not crap. The 18-55DX VR is actually pretty sharp and fast for what it is.

Having said that, $110-$120 is the most I would pay for one were I in the market.

that's exactly what I did. I listed according to what ebay was selling.. so if it was local they would save on shipping ;).

lots of people selling but fewer buying thus its worth what someone will pay for it, I got one to put with my older d70s for 120 US a month or so ago plus a couple other throw in lenses, a decent lens for sure

at this point, I might just find an old body and put the kit lens on that... and give it to my gf to shoot with!
