View Full Version : Adding subforums to this forum?

Hi all,

Since this is one of the more popular forums, we've been thinking about adding a few subforums (max 2) similar to the Photography and Cell Phone subforums in the Computers & Electronics discussion forum.

What are your thoughts on that and what would you suggest the subforums be if they are created?

Cheers,

Ryan

i'd say a diy and a new/used car purchase sub forum.

What car to buy (new and used)
How to fix something/Diagnostic
Ticket Combat

Tickets and a comparisons/what to buy subforum. I think those are the more frequent topics around here. Maybe a diagnostics/problems one but I don't think it pops up as often.

I find tickets to be a popular discussion point. Anything else, including buying advice and general questions can stay in the main Auto forum. It's a touchy point for obvious reasons.

Don't think there's a need for a subforum. Easy way to deal with tickets, don't speed and follow the rules of the road and you won't get any.

Also true, but common sense isn't so common, as you're very much aware of.

I'd say ticket combat, general , troubleshooting.

there's a lot of troubleshooting on the forums, buying advice/general discussion should be in the main forum

tickets and the like deserve their own forum for sure. Buying, selling, and the processes/information involved like ccc reports and dealership recommendations might constitute another thread, but im not entirely sure as there is the possibility for a lot overlap with the main thread if someone was looking for opinions or advice on a particular model.

Buying in the US. That one thread by MonsieurMaggot has lost it's value as it's way too long and unstructured.

troubleshooting

The armchair mechanic advice should not be taken as gospel in most cases...

How about an ES_Revenge spaz out forum? :D:lol:

Don't think we need one. Volume in here isn't anywhere near high enough to justify it.

Plus, if people would just search the number of new threads would probably be cut in half.

I don't think we need one too. The only reason there is so many ticket threads is that people don't use search. The same types of ticket threads come up and up again, and they're already pretty resourceful(most of the time anyways). Some are just troll baits so they get locked up quickly, so that's not really needed.

The topics in Motor Vehicles aren't specific enough to warrant a new subforum, like Electronics where Photography and Cellular phones are pretty large topics that can.

But if you think its necessary, then go ahead, not gonna complain. Stats don't lie.....;)

Ok,

Subforums
1. Useful Threads
2. Useless/Troll/Stupid Threads

 Really though, I don't think we need subforums. I like there being all the different topics in here...

I know. Seems I'm the only one that has any. :cheesygri

I suggest a subforum called "Road Rage" or "Please keep out of the left lane".

The following

Buying/selling new or used

Maintaining/trouble shooting advice

Legal and insurance

This is the best answer.

I agree with the posters that say people should really use the search function. Example, there's a dedicated insurance thread, yet time and again, you always see someone just start their own thread asking an insurance related question.

If I had to come up with two thread forums, I would kind of go with what m4gician suggested:
1) Buying/Selling related (vehicles, tires, winter tires, accessories, etc.)
2) Legal and Insurance (tickets, trials, and of course insurance)

LOL. So in other words an "How to equip my vehicle with crap/unsafe parts and/or how to scapegoat problems with road safety" subforum?

Seriously though, a Tickets subforum (dealing with Traffic Violations, Parking Violations, Criminal Charges related to driving), is sorely needed. I think most of us have been asking for that for a while. That one should be added without a doubt IMO.

If a second one were to be added, I'd say one about Car Buying (which would include all the threads about CCC reports/invoice pricing and asking for the like, along with pricetalk about whatever models in their specific threads).

Easy way to deal with tickets, don't speed and follow the rules of the road and you won't get any.
Uh yeahhhh, but how does that help us deal with people posting a zillion threads about them in the main MVA forum?

Legal/Tickets/Insurance

Not enough traffic in the motor vehicles and accessories subforum. I dont think its needed yet.

+1 on the search function.

If people would simply use it for what it's intended for, 1/2 the threads wouldn't exist. For example, I've seen a half dozen or so threads on motor oil alone this past week alone. All the info is redundant. Use the search function folks!

I'm not sure it's needed either, just something we're throwing out there.

From what I've read so far, the suggestions that make the most sense would probably be "Buying a Car" and "Insurance (Including Tickets)" subforums.
