I went to visit our new home today that is nearing completion. In the area where the dishwasher is to be located (builder not supplying appliances), we didn't notice any wires, tubes, drains, etc. It just looks like empty cabinet space with a tiled floor. The dishwasher is located next to the sink, and at the end of the attached island.

How do we hook up the dishwasher? I did a search and saw that apparently its supposed to hook up directly through the basement into the breaker box.

But I'm not sure how exactly this works. How come I don't see any wires in the empty space where the D/W will go? And aren't there supposed to be any tubes for hot/cold water roughed in?

Sorry if this is an elementary question but this is our first house and our first dishwasher :cheesygri

Thanks!

If an appliance is roughed in then you should see some sort of termination box if not that you are responsible for supplying it to the appliance. In the case of the dishwasher, you will need:

1. 120 Volt 15 amp supply line, be sure it's not already on an existing line that is maxed out wattage/amps wise, shut off is optional.
2. 1/2" water supply line with a shut off.
3. Unit comes with a approximate 4' flexible drain line that is not gravity feed. The dishwasher usually has a pump that will force the drain to the closest kitchen sink drain, therefore the standard 1/4" per foot slope is not needed.

we had the same .. how ever the power line was roughed in at Basemnet, so the installer will drill hole through tile to the basement to connect the power supply. the waterline, he will drill the side cabinet and get the connection from bottom of the sink. so its normal that you dont see anything currently on that space ..

Note: when you pick an installer, tell him to make sure to drill correctly on to basement as sometime their driling might break the basement duct work .

Also in ur PDI they will tell u what a roughed in for DW means .

Ok, thanks. This makes a bit more sense now. I did figure that probably they would go through the cabinetry towards the sink and connect the water from there.

Would someone who does the install bring any necessary parts needed for the hook up or would we supply it?

you don't need to buy anything ( beside DW ) .. in our case they brought the accessories and once installed tell him to test drive it for 10min and once its done make sure there is no leaks and DW is empty (no water)
