Hello all,
I know most people here frequently visit those computer stores on Spadina ave where you pay by cash etc..........
Have you guys experienced attitude from the staff of these stores? I don't get what their issue is? Why they have to be like that?
I recently went to Canada Computers to buy an AC adapter for an old laptop and I got the distinct feeling the guy behind the counter had an air of superiority or something and even the guy at the checkout had his nose up in the air! I'm not sure what is up with that.............

Generally I found most of the salespeople at CC are dicks. I just tell them what I want and leave.

In defence of CC employees, I have always received good customer service from the downtown and Mississauga locations.
Many people keep going back because some of their prices are so good.

I agree as well. I would not go there if not for the fact they usually have low prices. Just because they are cheap I will tolerate their BS.

I don't think that necessarily matters at all, they just speak English back to me sometimes.

I don't know how people get the impression that Chinese people will get better services there, but in fact, we don't.
They treat everyone the same way ;)
btw, try out SIG or CTY next time, they're big difference from those xxxxx in CC.

When my wife went to U of T, she lived a few blocks from College and Spadina.. so I did a lot of my 'bargain' shopping along that stretch.
I found that, generally, all the 'cheap' stores in there have little to no customer service aptitude.. I can only imagine they have an insanely high turnover rate: I don't ever think I saw the same people working at FD when I'd go in. The company policies weren't too customer service friendly either: good luck ever returning something to CC, FD etc;. I went in there looking for cheap deals with a manufacturers warranty, just so I never had to come back with a problem.
You really get what you pay for too. Sometimes bargain basement prices mean service to match.

Haven't been to College & Spadina in a while, but I never had a problem with attitude from the store clerks. (But that is maybe because I am an Indian looking male who knows what he's talking about with computers and knows how to deal with such retailers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtbyVFLl_7U).)
If you want to bargain and be treated with respect, my experience is that you have to deal with the women behind the counter. They always seem to be in the management roles in the stores where they can make you a deal. In my experience, the guys are grunts.

In order to keep their prices low they have to treat you this way. "Sure, "please" and "thank you" all cost money. Do you want them to add a surcharge onto your purchase for this like they do with CC purchases (and we all accept that)?

I have no problem with the surcharge because CC gives me an option that is not available with most retailers: I can choose not make a purchase that does not have the credit card processing fee included in the price!
No complaints here... I don't understand why people complain about this when it is really the credit card processing networks that victimize small business by giving preferential merchant accounts to the big international businesses, leaving small independent business to flounder.

I'm fine with it and am sure that their surcharge is legit. Can you imagine if more stores worked this way what would happen? Shops would eventually just take their current prices (which include the CC surcharge currently) and then publish a second bogus price with an additional amount added to it claiming it to be their "credit card" purchase price.
Net result, an additional 2% in their pockets and higher tax revenues for the government. Boo ya! The real issue Watson is how do you know that you are truly getting the cash/debit price?
