My second time trying as well, pays to stay up a bit later.

A number of GVA stores show they have stock, but if you place the order and check the order status, it will show 'out of stock'.

I couldn't get any coupons to work either, but at $350 is still a pretty good deal in my books.

who knows, maybe i will keep both. :P

Not sure if all these units are phantom? Even if you can "order" it, there's no guarantee until it's "ready for pickup" email is rec'd.

If Richmond (Sat) and Vancouver BB (Thurs) had stock, I couldn't find it on the floor. I checked. The gas to Abbotsford would eat up the $20 coupon savings, but $349 would still make the deal hot.

Stock of these are generally in the back so your only real shot at getting the deal is doing an order online then ISPU. I still have some doubts that i'll be able to pick it up tomorrow but its a good deal to replace this media center im using right now. Just got to swap the PSU and video card.

I had a sinking feeling that it may be phantom stock, but still wanted to order one just in case it was there. At least it was a fellow RFDer who got it.

Was at the Richmond BB today, too, and couldn't see any stock of it on the floor.

I just tried ordering and was told no stock available for ispu. IIRC, I was told one time that the stock info is 24hrs old. But anyone in GVRD who can still get one, I'm so jealous! So far, I only recall 1 guy managed to get the demo at the Burnaby BB for $310.

I was @ Metro today and didn't notice any cheap desktops... actually have been @ metro BB the last 4 nights cause i have been shopping @ metro so i decided to stop by BB too.

I wouldn't be one bit surprise if its phantom stock but i figure there's no harm in trying. Heck maybe i'll get another 5% coupon out of this... i ran out of 5% coupons!:cheesygri

When it rains, it pours, I guess.

As an aside, I really hate the way FS and BB's site limits the number of stores when checking stock.

Yeah it can't be that hard to fix. BB US site is so awesome compared to ca. It lists all the stores, and tells you whether they have stock or not before you even pick em.

FWIW, you might want to check out your local bestbuy store anyways. The store in Kingston had a whole row of demo desktops they were clearing out (I'm guessing b/c of Windows 7?). Some were good prices, some weren't but you might get a decent deal at your own local store and it never hurts to check. :) I'd venture to guess a lot more expensive that this deal though.

If i do, i get a free $20 game out of this so its still a great deal (too bad it won't happen). From my experience with BB, its either entire order for ISPU or none of the order. They do not do partial order like Staples will do (e.g. one time i ordered a USB drive + some pens/pencils... but they were out of the USB drive so i got the pen/pencils and $10 off them from the $10/50 coupon that was used in the order... and of course free shipping too... pen/pencils totalled ~$11 to bump the $39 USB to 50 so net cost of those were $1).

Did you try picking up the whole order and returning an item later at BB then? I don't think they would require you to return everything if you made several purchases in one order.

Found two supposedly in Greenfield Park (or is it Brossard?) on Taschereau Blvd near Montreal - first time I ordered two (time to replace a couple of machines), but couldn't get the coupons to work, so I cancelled and then went for 2 separate orders to max out the discount . . . took a while for the stock to show up again, but . . .

The first was accepted for processing, the other showed sold out (which is weird, since it took the original order for 2).

Hmm - I guess number one son won't be getting a new computer after all.

Now, what to do about the Acer WHS server I bought from Staples for ISPU too . . . . .? I guess that it's just too many computers for 2 days . . .

don't bother wasting your time... there's no way there are any more left after the initial posting here - with RFD effect, don't think any store would have any left... and it's been less than a week, so, definitely not enough time for them to order more from the manufacturer.

FWIW, I'm not sure how their stock system works. During the first round of this deal, all of my local stores showed 'item not available' for ISPU (not 'out of stock') when I tried to order online. I checked with a friend who works out of BB head office and he confirmed that all BC locations had a good number of these machines with the exception of a couple, but I decided I couldn't pursue it any further since the online system did not let me. Some pretty obvious discrepancy going on, maybe they are saving a backstock for Boxing day.

I ordered during the 2nd round on Friday morning, and did not get a order status update at all. I had to call Saturday afternoon and the CSR told me they did not actually have it in stock (they had my filler though!)

3rd round: ordered this yet again last night from a couple of locations before it went OOS, hopefully at least one of them has it physically in stock. I haven't received any order not filled emails yet.

What's with everybody placing orders from ridiculous distances away? No wonder everywhere is OOS, it's all the way-out-of-towners placing holds on stock. If there actually are orders being filled, I suspect a lot of buyers will be driving past each other en-route to each others' respective cities, even when there is stock sitting in their local store. Madness. Rather than wasting gas (and time), why not look for a simlar (possibly more useful) model locally for a bit more?

That said, I'm surprised if anybody in a major urban area is still finding stock. This PC seemed to go OOS within an hour on day one at my 3 closest stores, and it sounded like that was the case everywhere. If there has been a restock, with PCs from the warehouse, then why was it OOS online from the very start too? This really does look like a case of phantom stock.

I checked the stores closest to me and they were OOS, so I checked a bit further and found one and I'm going to get it. If the out-of-towners go to pick it up, what's the problem? There isn't a comparable model at this price. And if there is, show me.

The location that filled my order was OOS after they filled mine. I won't reveal the location until my computer is in my hands because of a lot of lurkers are picking them up and reselling on CL. I'm sure it's easy to sweet talk the CSR into giving you the one behind the shelf...

No problem with you hunting, just the wastefulness of it all. For example, when I bought my HD DVD player last year I had to drive to Burlington FS to pick it up. I didn't realise that the local BB had the next model up in stock, for $50 more. BB later refunded $50 to its customers, but FS was too tight to do the same for its customers. So if I had just gone to the local BB instead I would have had the next higher model, for exactly the same price, and could have saved myself the time and expense of a pretty long drive. You learn from experiences like that.

Maybe because it might be showing out of stock locally? If the savings on the deal is better than spending more for a model with lower specs for someone that needs it, then why not? It's simple economics my friend :).

I wouldn't mind the drive if the order was filled though, I think I might even enjoy it, but thanks for your concern...

I'm not sure you guys are getting my point. What I'm saying is that your ISPU may be sitting in the London store. So to an Londoner, he's seeing at as OOS there. Meanwhile one suddenly pops up at your store, he ISPUs it, and it rapidly goes OOS there too. So in reality both stores have stock awaiting pickup, but you and the London guy will end up having to drive to one another's stores to (hopefully) collect your orders. It's all very inefficient. Also, if anybody is placing orders here there and everywhere in the hopes of finding one they'll be leaving potential customers at all the other stores seeing "OOS" too, even while his orders are sitting there unclaimed. There should be better ways of doing things.

Wish Equus was my neighbour. She was helpful to others in the Gateway laptop thread too.

Just wondering why she keeps giving up these great deals she's managed to snag? Both are keepers for me. Now I need to figure out what to do with my perfectly good, just-replaced gear. :)

BTW, speaking of long pickups - Beijing!

(I've been to Montreal, and I can tell it's not Beijing!)

There's about a half block downtown that might look like the 'old section' of Beijing - but I'm not even Asian - it was just what came to mind when I set up my profile.

Even so, it'll be a long-ish drive. I'm West Island and she's South Shore - then again I was going to be headed that way for my ISPU when they killed that.

I tend to believe that it could be a form of buyer's remorse - buy first, figure out if you need it later, because there's always someone around to take it over if you decide you don;t need it. Seems to be what happened here.

Gonna phone her now.

Ciao.

I remember passing through that Chinese section when I was there. It seemed a bit small for a Chinatown at the time though.

Nice of Equus to pass along the deals at-cost though. After all, she has put in the time and effort to pick them up in the first place. A slight markup to cover her costs wouldn't be unreasonable. She's a refreshing change from the ripoff hoarders we see elsewhere.

Any of you guys see quantity as available for ISPU... and actually ordered online for ISPU and waiting for an answer.

Just run to the store and cross your fingers!

It just might be the lazy customer service guy that did not do his work of filling the IPSU ticket (or just didn't see it). In the mean time, anyone can just snatch the stock that is on the shelf.

But if you have an pending ISPU ticket, you could just work it out with the customer service! That's what I learned when I got mine. They (the actual customer service clerk) will flag your order as fulfilled or not.

Damn, got an order not filled from Belleville....and that is over 200km away lol!

i got the same "not filled" around midday (probably like you) from belleville... but i was in the area and decided to drop by....

to my surprise, they had two in stock -- an open box one, and a new one which i picked up. i asked the csr why they canceled my order, and they said they had only found the open box one!

anyways, they also gave me $20 off the sealed box when i showed them my pizza pizza coupon, (even though it expired yesterday)...

the open box one was marked down and available when i was there this afternoon.

lmao, didn't you use "All or None" option?

Just got a "partially filled" email! Too bad it was only the $0.90 filler that is available! No go for the Acer; congrats to those who actually got one!

I got a not filled response by 1 of the 3 locations I ordered from last night. Not too optimistic on the other 2.

I don't want this bad enough to waste an afternoon and try different stores out to check if they actually have it or not though.

Because it's no longer October. It's expired.

It's so funny. I turned to a five-time loser. And 99% to enjoy my sixth time. Why BB always sent out phantom stock???

Don't give up. I was got 8 times "order not filled" and 1 times PM "you'r a bit late, it's gone" from a good guy willing to sell at original price.

And it's magic.

I placed 3 orders asap at 3 different store at around 11:00AM yesterday, and was informed one filled...I drove 180KM, luckily it's not only one way, to pick up a demo one...and got $50 off...I don't like demo but I have to like price drop...

Don't worry. Somebody said it best a few posts back: just wait for the next deal. There "always" is one.

I don't hope so, just check at spare time~~ and when it comes, how can I give it up although it's 90 km away? Anyway, the closest BB is 10+ km away. Driving 90 km is much better than going in person and asking for 7 times. It's a pick-up-in-store deal, we have no choice.

Oh man. After getting my ISPU filled and calling to confirm the model number, I drove out to Kitchener only to have the wrong computer waiting for me!!! I tried to get another quad core with similar specs for $330 but no go, they said they could only meet me halfway at $4xx but I said no (too much $$). They ended up giving me $30 giftcard but damnnnnnn what a waste of time!!

Anyone selling one!?

Poor guy, I hope you don't drive 100Km. BTW, if you can add $20 off in your order, I guess you was confirmed before 1 Nov?

Hi, I've created a new thread in the Computers & Electronics section as an area where purchasers of the Acer Intel Q8300 4gb 500gb Desktop at Best Buy ($330 or $350) can continue the discussion of various tech issues and post-purchase matters related to this system. There are currently at least three Expired Deals threads and the info is getting scattered between them. Time to bring everything together in one place. :)

Feel free to add to and build this thread into a useful resource for owners of the BB Acer Intel Q8300 4gb 500gb Desktop and similar SFF systems.
