Here's a brief review on the 2001-05 Civics:

Any extended warranty available? 9K would be a very good price here in BC.

where should i get reliable car reports from? im also looking at this other civic thats 2004. only difference is no alloy wheels and no sunroof. but has 80k km compared to the first one with 99k km.

This one also comes with 2 year warranty (im not sure about the other one). Not sure what type of warranty yet though, still have to go and check out the car.

KMs are way too high for the year, but certainly a good price for an '05 Honda. It will last forever. I'd buy it :)

the civic lxg from nexcar auto is sold already =( just gave them a call. but they do have other civics that are similar. they also provide carfax reports... but im having that dilemma regarding carfax reports... cbc news reported that alot of their reports did not contain info regarding claims and stuff and it showed on carproof that there were been claims.

Really? I bought an '05 with 26k on it a year ago. I think it depends what people are accustomed to. It seems we're accepting that high mileage cars are "ok" so the dealers can get more for them.

Cars are meant to be driven - you engine seals and gaskets are probably in worse condition than those on 2005 car with 90K millage....

or ur odometer has been tampered with... did you get it for relatively cheaper then other ones of the same year with a little bit more mileage?

typically average users drive around 15k km a year. heck just going to work and back everyday, and i drive 20k km a year

It's a digital odometer.. Supposedly tamper proof.. And no, it wasn't cheaper. In fact I paid a good chunk of change for it.

Since then I've put almost 30k on it though :| It's gone to Montreal and back several times as well. Fabulous car. An incredible car actually. I will keep it until it falls apart.

I do have one complaint (if you can call it that). On the highway it's so quiet, smooth and comfortable that it actually tends to lull you into a sleep on long drives if you're not careful. Not so sure that's a good thing. I've never seen a car so well insulated and designed so you don't even get wind noise. It's almost....wierd. It's actually quieter than the Deville it replaced.

LOL

Your 05 Civic has a better ride on the highway than a Cadillac Deville????????

Civics are awful on the highway, its a little city car.

uhhh, if u do ur research the digital odometer was "supposedly" harder to tamper with... BUT research shows that it made it even easier... (hackers tamper into it electronically is much easier.)
(im in police foundations, so we've actually seen like private videos regarding how thieves steal cars and all that such)

ummm regarding the how quiet it is in the car... you mustve not driven a decent car before... no offense but the civic is not typically better then an average car... even though im planning on getting one.

Please see my previous post. I didn't realize in my wording that I alluded to it being a Civic. It's a Buick Allure. Sorry for the confusion.

Avoid 01-03's like the plague, and be wary of ones that were driven by young male drivers. And for anything newer, CHECK THE REAR TIRES FOR UNEVEN WEAR, because there is a TSB out for newer Civic's about a incorrect part fitted to the rear suspension that causes excessive road noise and uneven tire wear.

Quebec Car (Lombardi Honda of MTL). I'd say away. The suspension on a car takes a real beating in MTL.

Those Buicks and cars like that are very nice and comfortable for the price.

To the OP, if your budget is 10k look around there are deals to be had on larger cars if you want one instead of a Civic.

If your heart is set on a Civic get the latest one you can find in good condition and have it checked out by another mechanic (ie not the place selling it).

The 2005/80km/$9,000 seems pretty good.

Keep in mind its probably a lease buy-back, I think buy out is only around 7500 so the difference is what the dealer is making...Honda dealers usually keep the best lease returns to sell, and get rid of the ones they don't want to other non-Honda car lots.

It's a fantastic, extremely reliable car. Starts every day. Decent on gas. Very comfortable and smooth. It has never given me a moment's trouble which is very important to me.

My one complaint is driveability in the snow. One day I went sideways down the street. I immediately went out and bought Firestone Winterforce snow tires. I've never in my life bought snow tires until the Buick. I was absolutely shocked at the difference. So much so that I called the dealer back and told him how much of a difference they made and how happy I was with them.

But yeah, a great car for the price. And man, a totallly huge plug for those darned tires.

20k kms per year is normal. For an 05, if the in-service date was late 04, that means it would be approx. 5 years old now so 100,000km is certainly fair game. Of course it does depend on the in-service date. If it was late 05, then it's got higher than average kms on it. Anything over 24k kms a year would be considered "high mileage"; anything around 16k kms/year would be lower mileage. If it's less than 12k kms/year that would be suspect just looking at the number alone--you'd wonder if the odo wasn't tampered or reset or replaced, or the VSS disconnected, etc.

It's a digital odometer.. Supposedly tamper proof.. And no, it wasn't cheaper. In fact I paid a good chunk of change for it.
You mean electronic, I presume. Pretty much every odometer on any car is digital. Digital means that digits are used directly to display the quantity, so even "rollover digit" mechanical odometers are digital. As for electronic ones being "tamper proof", LOL. Some electronic-display odometers are even easier to tamper with than the old mechanical ones.

mileage is irrelivant (sp?) best way to check engine maintence.
unsrew the oil filler cap. look inside the hole. is it brown like its been spray tanned?
or is it nice and clean.
spray tanned ? = long intervals between oil changes.

05 LXG, 60,000km - $10,000
05 LXG, 99,000km - $9,000
04 LX, 80,000km - $9,000

Which one would be best?

well technically they can both last just as long... honda engines run pretty much forever... its the other parts that break down and repairs that cost you money. its very rare to have the engine break down before the 200k km mark.

sorry to go off topic a little but are the new 2009/10 civic engines the same? Will the new civics be as reliable as these older ones?

edit: same question for the honda fit... is there any way of knowing that these brand new cars will be as reliable as the older ones?

Honda engines are usually pretty reliable, but their transmissions can be utter and complete crap. There has been some real horror stories of Honda owners having their transmission fail on them suddenly on highways, or on the road.

The 2006 and newer Civics (except the Si) have a 1.8 litre engine with 140 hp. 2001-05 have a 1.7 litre engine with 115 hp. Except for some issues on the 2006 model, the 2007-2010 Civics should be more reliable than the 2001-05.
