Well I got a really good deal on a Vent-a-hood NPH18 series hood. I was wondering if anyone has installed one before. I'm looking at the directions and it says that you attach a 2 inch by 30 inch piece of wood to the studs and then you hang the hood from that with 2 screws. Now this thing is a chimney style hood and is PRETTY heavy, and I dont think this will hold it up. But this is what the instructions say from what I can understand. Has anyone installed one of these and have any advice???

There's no reason to doubt the instructions, Vent-a-hood is one of the most reputable hood manufacturers out there.
Provided you use a strong mounting strip and secure it properly to the studs, you'll be fine.
Studs can hold up hundreds of pounds as long as the screws are strong enough. If you're in doubt, you can always upgrade the mounting screws with your own hardware.
If you're not comfortable doing the installation, to get a pro to do the job it should only cost 250.00 or so.

We installed a 36" Jennair Pro and have a similar set of instruction. Took two strong men and little me to mount the hood up after we installed the strip of wood to the stud and the mounting strip to the wood. Not having a lot of confidence, we actullay replace their screws with the 3.5" inches galvanized screws and put in 3 screws to each stud (so we put in 9 screws altogether). The hood is still holding so and we have no accidents yet.
