Cracked fibreglass tub surround

Immediately after taking possesion of my new house, I found that the tub surround in one of my bathrooms has a large crack in one of the walls.

It looks like something beneath the tub surround punctured through the wall of the surround (I am thinking that is is probably a nail or something in the framing of the wall). The crack spread laterally and is about 6 inches in diameter (similar to how a crack in a windshield spreads out in a star-burst pattern). When I called the builder about it, they are going to send a fibreglass repairer to patch the crack.

Does anyone know how reliable these fibreglass repairs are and how long it will hold up for?

if done right, the repair should last indefinitely. Whether or not its undetectable is another story.
Fiberglass is easily repaired....otherwise cars like Corvettes, or boats would be irrepairable/disposable :)

Personally seen this done a handful of times at work and as long as the person knows what they're doing it will be fine.

I would be surprised if your surround was actually fibreglass unless you went really cheap with your options. It is most likely acrylic which can be fixed similarly to fibreglass. I would be taking this up with the builder who would then get in touch with the plumber to get corrected.

Plumbers have zero to do with fixing issues such as this, its not our job. The company that makes the tub will have their own repair techs.
