So in early October I sent my WD hard drive for warranty repair. It was shipped via Xpresspost to Mississauga and expected to arrive the next day. I checked the tracking number the next day and it said it was out for delivery in Mississauga. I figured I would give WD a few days for them to process it in their systems.

A week later I checked the tracking number again but it was the same status as before. Out for delivery and no signature. Weird. So I looked on Canada Post's website for the claims number. Spoke to CSR and she filled out a claim. 2 weeks later got a phone call to investigate my claim and asked for RMA number. Then nothing for a few days. Then got a call saying I would be fully reimbursed for my package(max is $100) +postage. Great!

Received the check today for a sum of $106.09.

But...

I paid $9.04 for postage. Not including shipping materials.

Difference of $2.95. Not significant, but definitely noticeable. :|

Decent service from Canada Post!

PS: It is still out for delivery

I too have found that CP settles claims without too much hassle.

Ideally, your package will be "found" at some random point in time, complete its journey, get repaired or replaced, and returned to you.

The $106 will barely offset the inconvenience, but anything helps.

Similar thing happened to me.

I sent a reference letter using Xpresspost, but it didn't say it was recieved. Although they thought it was recieved (and it ended up being that it was), because they didn't track it properly they refunded me the cost of postage.

It was pretty easy, not much hassle

Maybe they're not refunding a fuel surcharge, or the taxes or both. You'd have to look at the original receipt to see what that $2.95 is.

Whether it is a fuel surcharge or not, they didn't provide the service he paid for so they should refund all charges.

Twice my gf sent something to Europe that failed to make it and CP sent her a cheque for $100 or so, without much hassle.

You have to wonder what's happening to these items which don't make it to their destination. Theft?

i sent a camera sold on ebay to someone and it got dented in the process. I emailed canada post, never heard back, but recieved a cheque for the value of the camera + shipping about a month later. Hastle free, never even had to send a pic of the damaged item.

I've shipped stuff worth thousands of dollars and never lost anything once. I insure it for the full amount though.

I had a PS3 go mysteriously missing when they first came out, I have lost a 20.5 " LCD , several motherboard combos, 2 video card combos . All of it was insured and claims processed however it has been a long period for the buyers of the items to be reimbursed, one claim took near 10 weeks.

They have all gone missing from a particular postal outlet as well. All are entered into the system, but apparently never reach the local sortation facility, so I beleive they are being dropped off prior to the truck getting their but the item is scanned showing that it has?
