Is This Fridge A Deal?

I will post more info once I get my hands on it but there is this discontinued brand new Samsung fridge on sale for $700. Retail value was $3200. Stainless Steel, double doors, bottom freezer, water and ice maker etc.

Anything I need to know when buying a discontinued item? My mom said even if I buy a regular fridge, the parts may not even be available 5 years from now so I shouldn't be worried.

It has the standard 1 year for parts and 5 year for overall performance.

Should I buy it?

So you can't repair a 10 year old fridge? Most appliances are discontinued after a year or 2 anyway as they are replaced by new model appliances. So don't be adverse to buying a discontinued appliance.

The fridge is 35 inches wide. Right now my fridge is 30 inches and there is a gap in between the fridge and cabinet but not sure how much space. Seems like 6 inches or so but not certain. I don't access to measure it right now and apparently the SS ones are going fast.

Are all standard kitchen spaces built to house this?

No. You need to make sure you leave some space around the edges for air movement, etc as well. Likewise with height.

Well right now there is a big gap on all side and the top, just not sure if my space can handle 35 inches. I read somewhere that 36 inches is a standard? Anyway I can find out?

I don't really want to wait past the weekend since it appears to be going fast...I should have measured it last night :cry:

Make sure you measure the height as well. We had to rebuild our upper cabinet over the fridge to accomodate our Samsung fridge as they are taller than "normal"...

Most def, mine is currently 68 inches and this one is 70. I have over 6 inches of space from uppers to fridge right now.

Although I'm not crazy about the bottom drawer freezer, seems awkward to me. Anyone have opinions about this?

Why? How often do you get stuff from your freezer vs the fridge?

I much prefer the freezer on the bottom as its much easier to get things out of the fridge when its on top.

Guh, this thread made me realize that maybe I didn't measure out my fridge opening properly prior to buying a fridge for our new home. I just check the KA dminesions guide for our fridge and it says to leave 2.5" on the side of the frdige if its to be located next to a fixed wall. Yikes! AND we have a gable on the other side of the fridge so I wonder if I'd need 2.5" clearance on THAT side as well! Ugh, I have a bad feeling about this....I'll have to check my paperwork when I get home but I don't remember my fridge opening being extra large to accommodate a 2.5" clearance on each side. The fridge itself is 35 5/8" wide. So, I'd need an opening of 40 5/8" wide?

I really hope we don't have to shop around for another fridge....we got a good deal on it AND saved the PST when we bought it in August.

Speedy, I love the bottom mount freezer as it puts everything in the fridge at about eye level, give or take. I guess it depends on the types of things you buy/store as well. For us, we eat nothing but fresh fruits and vegetable so there is no more of stuff getting forgotten/lost in the crispers and fridge itself. I actually ended up choosing the Samsung fridge that I have because of the layout of the bottom mount freezer. Mine is 3 seperate drawers vs. the norm of a single large basket. With the drawers I know exactly where everything is and don't have to root through a large basket to find something. I will say though that I only use my fridge freezer for things like ice cream, forozen stocks, baking supplies, etc. It's not my main freezer as we have a stand alone for everything else like meat, bread, etc.

My freezer is basically for frozen veggies, and ice cream and some frozen foods I make like dumplings. I use the fridge the most too but it's just the way the drawer works because I find it weird ot have to dig in the freezer to grab stuff.

Watch at the end of the day it won't fit and I lose out on this deal :(

Either way, is Tasco the best place to buy appliances and do they do group discounts? I don't want super name-brand ones.

I heard shipping is not until Nov 05, and my friend is supposed to order one for me today, but apparently he caught a cold and is staying at home. So I hope there's still some stock available. Anyone who works there or know someone who is can confirm the availability of the stock or when is this deal valid until? Or maybe redirect me to the order page...?

The fridge won't fit my kitchen, I am soooo bummed. It will fit the space but it will affect my storage and it will block the access to my bottom cabinet :cry:
