Didn't see a threa don this yet, so anyone pick this up yet? I'm impressed doens't seem to be leaps and bouns ahead of forza 2 but still an improvement from Forza 2, but the framrates are better and the auction house is more refined. I'm loving the extras that come with the limited edition.
So anyone else get it yet & interested in a bit of friendly competition?

Background: Played Forza 2 nearly non stop for 2 years, stopped playing in beginning of this year. Have been playing racing games for a while - played GRiD, NFS Shift, GT Prologue, and GT PSP recently. Out of all these games, my favourite is probably Forza 2
Impressions: Positive, but somewhat disappointed. The graphics have been improved significantly. Some tuning options have been improved. Tracks have been improved. Like the interior. Sadly that's it, I feel. Where are all the frick'n cars? Where is the XF-R...the LP560...the GT-R...? E39 M5? Honda Accord? Original GTI?...I could go on and on. GT 4 which was released 4 years ago had double the cars this game has. Drag racing is flawed. The beginning sequence of every race can't be turned off. I could go on and on with some of the flaws. Hopefully though, these will be fixed with DLC from Turn 10.
I like the game, but i would a) not call this FM3...more like FM2.5 b) I would definitely not give it a 9+...8.5/10.

I like it. There is a great amount of cars, and I'm sure there will more to come in form of DLC. Yeah, it's not perfect, but is as close as it can be, for now, since no GT5 yet

There are some new interesting cars that are keeping me happy for now - E60 M5, G8 GXP, Genesis, 500Abarth. But I definitely need some more.
Overall I am happy with the game, and I don't think I will ever go back to Forza 2.

First thing I did when I had enough credits, bought my car - Civic SI. It VTEC's at the correct rpm too. I'm pretty impressed.

LOL!..I did the same when I won enough money, as for wheel, still haven't 1 I like ye. I want one that offers full 720+ degree rotation, w/ leather wrapped wheel that feels amost like th ereal thing, so i'm waiting for the rumored steering wheel(s) I've been hearing about.
No racing game will ever be perfect, I'd rather fewer quality cars than 1000 cars that feel and drive the same. The # of cars won't be an issue in FM3 as you can buy anything in the auction house, how many cars do you atcually use, what maybe 25 - 50? I think 400 is even too much.
1 flaw I noticed was they took some of the difficulty & simulation out of this game with the replay/rewind features and the game is much more forgiving to sh***y drivers...
Stay tuned driving enthusiasts...I'm working an an RFD tournament and give away 1 of the many extra pre order codes I got, once we get enough drivers & interest.
Also check out the forza boards...lots of tips & insight from Turn 10 devs.

I like this game so much, that I haven't gone back to finish Uncharted 2, yet.:D
BTW, one of the games I've trade it in for FM3 was GT5P, and no looking back there. I just love the 360 controller for racing games

GT5P multiplayer was horrible. You'd just connect and automatically join other players in a race which was pre-configured for only 2 laps usually. And since almost every car u'd race against was the same or almost. 2 laps wasn't enuf to get u from last place to first if u randomly started in last.
NFS Shift was good. I rly like how fast things felt and the noise from the car. But I didn't like how dim the map in the corner was since I play on a projector so I can't tell which way to turn next. I didn't like how u'd have to always follow the line for accurate points.
Forza 3 feels very polished for a game. I really like how u get to pick ur first car and they don't tell u the stats for ur first car. I like the way the way they let u choose the difficulty and how u get rewarded more $ for more difficulty. I turn off all assists and drive manual but choose the easy difficulty. This way, the car feels u have a tad bit more hp to get to 1st and stay in 1st if u don't mess any turns. Also since theres damage. I can't just drive and smash into other cars and use them as walls like I once did in the old gran turismo games and nfs shift. I try not to get in front of other cars unless it's safe.
Does anyone know how manual/w clutch works exactly in the forza 3 game with steering wheel?
I've been driving with manual/no clutch and sometimes theres a runway and lets say I am in 5th gear and then theres a upcoming U-turn for example. Sometimes I will change down to 4-3 gear and I thought I was pressing the hand brake button but I was actually pressing the clutch button even though I am playing manual/ no clutch setting....then I get that picture in the right side of the screen that says engine damage. Then later when I'm driving, the car won't accelerate as fast as it used to. Why does this happen in the game? Did I damage the clutch?

I like the replay/rewind feature. I don't use it all the time, but when I get in a an interesting situation, I like to use it and try different things. But then again, I'm probably one of those sh***y drivers you're talking about.

The button on the steering wheel which used to be the handbrake button is now the clutch button and yes, if the damage symbol comes up, you've damaged the clutch. You can find all the controls in game.

Im really enjoying this game... they added some features that make this my perfect racing game:
Rewind - great to use when you make one mistake that nullifies a 10+ minute race. Without rewind its the type of mistake that makes me quit the game for the night.
Auto-Upgrade - i love the ability to auto-upgrade your car to a specific class. Its a well thought out option and they normally give you a car that has great stability/power. Normally when i upgrade my cars i dont put enough attention to tires/handling and this messes me up in the race (cant control my cars).... With this option I can quickly upgrade cars that im not 100% into.
If Forza 4 can have the same adrenaline/experience you get from NFS:Shift's cockpit view then it will be the perfect game

I'm also really enjoying this game! The features you mentioned definitely add to the replay value of the game. They kept things simple with these features. The only thing I HATE about the game is the car revving sequence before you actually start the race. You cannot pause and you cannot rev the car yourself, that is stupid. I find it a challenge to get a good start sometimes.
Some may be against this but I actually like the in-car view of Forza better. It's a bit more simple and clean. I really like the constant FPS of the game too. A lot of the times I found NFS Shift would slow down in certain areas. It was really annoying. The sense of speed is a lot faster in Shift but the cars don't handle as well as I would like sometimes. I find Forza just feels so solid and smooth. If you take advantage of the sensitivity of the trigger buttons, you can get a good feel of the car's power and handling.
I give this racing game a 9 out of 10. It has a lot going for it and the community aspect is great!

i got the ms wheel just for forza 3 but and (based on the reviews) i must be the only one who hates it. the entire time it feels like i'm fighting the force feedback motors rather than playing the game. even with PGR3 which should be more arcade-ish compared to F2/F3 is a chore to control.
are the logitech wheels for the ps3 any different/better?

Can't you adjust the vibration?
How's the build quality on the MS wheel, was thinking of getting one.

not that i can tell. well i suppose one way is to not plug in the power outlet and just the AA batteries. that reduces the force feedback but it was still extremely frustrating to use. it's not at all natural with the constant jerking and the motor opposing your inputs. even with a basic Toyota CRV with all the automatics and driving aids turned on my car was just all over the track. not fun at all.
(i'll fully admit that it's possible the wheel is amazing and i just completely suck at using it)
How's the build quality on the MS wheel, was thinking of getting one.
build quality is pretty good. the wheel has a textured soft rubber finish, the shift paddles are plastic, and the pedals have decent feel with soft rubber inserts. the main unit has a glossy finish with the sides done in the same plastic as the console. you have the option of sitting it on your lap or using a clamp. it's a little annoying with the wires as you'll have a main power lead connecting the base and you'll have a second wire which connects the pedals to the base unit.
the pedals may slip a bit on a smooth surface with heavy use and the wheel does not do a full 720.

I think it is pretty good not that we have any other options at this price point for $100. I picked it up 2 weeks ago when it went on sale for $79.99. Some people lucked out and found it for $49.99 at the Yonge/Dundas HMV.
Anyone make a racing cockpit like this one yet? Cost to make one less the cost of a wheel is like $30 bucks in PVC pipes and joints

I bought a wheel when they went on sale last week. I havn't picked up Forza 3 yet, been waiting to see a deal on it.
I've been using the wheel on Dirt2, NFS shift demo, and Forza 3 demo.
I'm starting to get used to it, I think clamping it down is a necessity for correct feel and control with the force feedback.
I'm looking for a cheap table mate II, that seems like the best cheap table to clamp it to if you want to sit on the sofa and not build a dedicated cockpit.

Shouldn't feel like your fighting the feedback too much.. I don't really notice, it's there and adds that little extra when going into a corner too strong. Clamping it down is a necessity. Keep playing and you'll get used to it, even finding the feedback helps your driving.
I have the Act Labs RS for PC and when I used it back in it's day the force feedback was alot stronger.. arms would be sore after a few races with that sucker.
I picked up the ms wheel at bb last week for $80 after doing a number of races with the controller. Massive difference and sure glad I decided to pick one up. One day might buy the Fanatec wheel but it's pricey and the ms wheel does a damn good job for the price. Even at 99 it's a good deal.

My brother picked up Forza 3 a couple days ago, along with the microsoft wheel and we've been hooked every since! It's so much better playing with a wheel.
I may pick up another wheel once it goes down even more and play split screen. Too bad the Logitech G25 (900 degree turning?) wasn't offered on the 360, I think Sony kept them exclusive to themselves...Even has a clutch!
Wheel is good enough and gives you much more freedom than playing with the controller. Good build yet could have been much better. And the pedal is cheap, the rubber doesnt do anything (slides) and the rubber has already fallen off. The feel is good though and only needs a day to get used to it. I'm already a pro at it  Overall a decent/good wheel. We used a non-slip yoga mat for the pedal and now it never budges! Stays put.
Forza 3 looks much better than 2 and I like the in-game music selection. There needs to be more cars though! The lack of cars in this game makes it seem like TURN 10 rushed this game out. They could have included another DVD packed with more cars/tracks and it would have been nice. GT is aiming to have like what? 1000 cars? GT PSP already has like 800 cars. For Forza 3 to have like 400 is dissapointing and leaves me to believe they just rushed the game out.
If they had taken the time to create the 'best racing game' available, Forza 3 would have been one for the ages...Games like Starcraft, Gran Turismo takes long to make since they are aiming to be the best of all time.
I love Forza 3 at the moment, I think its an amazing racer with awesome feel but they havent really made drastic improvements from Forza 2. All the changes are minor, its basically Forza 2.5.

Sony has never played the exclusivity game as far as I know. Logitech's products just work well out of the box. If Microsoft wasn't so proprietary, it would work too. As it is, everything needs to have a Microsoft logo before it even works with the 360. It's Microsoft's users loss because of greed. The wheel is pretty much a failure, which is why they've opened up the licensing to Fantec because Logitech likely refused to pay randomness fees.
As for number of cars, it isn't fun driving 10 different Civics. There were overlapping Hondas/Acuras.

they probably went with fanatec because the fanatec wheel destroys the g25
also they didn't really "go" with fanatec
the wheel works with 360, PS3, and PC

Logitech didn't want to pay the licensing fees to Microsoft and Sony is losing in this console wars right now. I never thought I would ever see Tekken available on Xbox360  That has always been a Sony exclusive title I believe.
The Tablemate II is available at your local Walmart and I might pick one up tonight to hold me over till I find a proper setup for my wheel.
As for the wheel I think it is decent for the $100 price range (better if you picked it up on sale last week for $79.99 and even better for $49.99 for those lucky ones) considering the G25 is double of that and I can only imagine how mucht he Fanatec wheel will be when it comes out.

I've tried it on my lap and it is do-able but I found the wheel kept sliding off my lap so I had to constantly pull it back towards me. You also have to find a way to secure the pedals on the floor too or else they will start to push away from you as well. I think the best way to enjoy it is to get a TV table or the "Tilt-a-table" as seen on those TV commercials or else you can get a dedicated racing setup from playseat.com

Yah, I love all the casual crowd features in the game. Opens it up to a whole new audience. I'm also one of those people who hates blowing a 10 minute race on one bad turn, so I love the rewind button. Auto-upgrade is good as well since I'm more interested in racing than tuning (I use to only play arcade modes in other games cause I didn't want to bother with all the unlocking and tuning and stuff).
My friends who are hard core race simmers love it too since it still has all the tuning detail. And the purists just don't use the rewind feature if they don't agree with it. Everyone wins.
