Ya, might not be for everyone, but crazy to think that you can now get caskets (http://www.walmart.com/search/search-ng.do?search_constraint=0&ic=48_0&search_query=casket&Find.x=11&Find.y=11) at Walmart.com!

Read about it here! (http://money.canoe.ca/News/Other/2009/10/28/11558496-ap.html)

Now if I could just find a deal on embalming fluid I would be set for life...and death.
Btw,that's a scary good deal.

Interesting - how much are caskets if you purchase them directly from the funeral homes in general? Over $5 000 I assume or more?

Don't they also sell guns in the southern states? Probably in the same section of the store.

We will all die one day. Make your life worthwhile! Don't waste it on useless crap! Planning ahead is good and it is also good to think about alternatives to your memorial at funeral homes which are known to technically rip people off in their time of sorrow. Plan ahead, and save yourself the second grief of being ripped off at the end of the day.

I think you can find guns at walmart in any state that allows it. Not just southern states.

As crazy as this may seem, it's a good thing. The market needs some outside pressure on it to keep escalating prices down.

Maybe they were getting too many back with soil stains on them.

Don't you kind of need a casket pretty soon after someone dies?

"Ground" shipping ain't gonna cut it!

If you have ever planned a funeral, you'll know how expensive caskets are because of the lack of places selling them.

That one posted for $895 is actually really cheap compared to the ones they sell at funeral homes.

Why does anyone care what kind of box they're buried in? Throw me in a homemade pine box and I'll be fine, won't even notice.

Why would anyone need a box? Just throw me in the dirt and bury me. I'll be fine and won't even notice.

Even better, donate your body to science. It's useless after death to everyone but scientists.

Or pizz off a police force and get dumped in a remote area. When the token 'man was just out walking his dog' finds your bones, they'll think its a murder scene and get their knickers in a twist.

Maybe it's RFDer in me, but funeral homes just prey on people in grief.

I think this is an excellent idea, I don't know the logistics of getting one after a death (shipping times) but consider the family gets a double whammy of outrageous costs for funeral and having to deal with the loss of a loved one.

It's good to see companies providing alternatives, Funeral homes have a had a long long run without much competition and have charged accordingly.
