Eurail Pass??

I'm thinking of flying to Frankfurt in December and travel to Zurich and other cities within Germany and Switzerland. Initially I was going to fly to Zurich but thought the flight connect at Frankfurt anyways, might as well just get off there.

I'm looking at the Eurail Pass. If I were to purchase the Germany-Switzerland regional pass, does that entitle me to travel within the 2 countries within the time span??

I could just get off the plane and Frankfurt then hop on the train to Berlin for example??

Anyone have experience with that route???

Yes and yes. Depending on how many "days" you buy, you are entitled to travel by train within those days. If you travel past 7PM and your journey takes past midnight, then that will consider as one day. You write the date on your pass and give it to the conductor when asked. You need to validate it when you get to Franfurt before you board your train to Berlin. You also have to be careful not to pass countries not covered in your pass. For example, if you're traveling from Munich to Zurich and the train will be passing through Austria, you need to have a separate ticket for that journey covered even though you don't plan on getting off the train in Austria. I traveled around Europe for 3 months with a Eurailpass and it was incredibly fun. I especially like sleeping on couchettes on overnight trains. It's like a hostel on rails.

You probably want this pass (http://www.eurail.com/eurail-germany-switzerland-pass?currency=eur) instead. Anyway, 5 days (the lowest number of days you can buy) of train travel in an 11-day trip seems to be a bit much. You're probably better off buying point-to-point tickets instead. But then again, an overnight train ride from Munich to Berlin would probably cost at least 150 euros so maybe having a pass might be worth it.

I don't plan on visiting any attractions in any specific attractions in any cities. I'm just thinking of travel from cities to cities by rail...it's something can't be done as easily here. I haven't even looked into hostel yet:cheesygri

If that's the case, then go for it. Even better if you're 25 or under since you qualify for the cheaper "youth" pass. That's one thing I like about Europe -- 25 year olds are still considered "youth" and you get discounts because of it.
