Yoga Apparel

Hi, I have a relative visiting here from overseas (India) that is into yoga and I wanted to get them a gift, like pants or some other type of yoga clothing.

I don't know much about this type of thing though. I have heard of lululemon but this person is middle-aged and not really slim so I don't think a lot of the clothing I see there would be suitable. Plus it's expensive but I wouldn't be against getting something from there if it looked good.

Any advice on what to get and where to get it would be appreciated. Thanks.

Lululemon works for middle-aged people as well. My mom wears that stuff too haha.

If you're willing to fork out the money, I'd highly recommend Lulu.

I've heard good things about lululemon. Especially if the yoga gear is going to be for yoga, the practicality is probably more important than how she looks in it.

"Yoga clothing" needn't come from a specific store or be of a specific style. You can wear anything that doesn't restrict your movement and you'd be fine. I'd think that someone that comes from the mother-land of yoga would know what to wear. So many people put so much importance into buying the perfect, cutest little Lululemon outift when really you could wear a pair of jogging pants and a tank top. What I'm saying is that you shouldnt worry som uch about a certain style or brand. You could take your friend to Winners and buy them something they would feel comfortable practicing in.

With that being said, since you want to get a gift, yes Lululemon would be appropriate. I see lots of middle aged "not really slim" people wearing Lululemon in my yoga class and they look just fine. As long as its comfortable, it'll work. Lululemon isn't for everyone though....I love their (overpriced) pants but don't fit properly into their tanks. Take your friend there and if it doesn't work out, hop over to Winners or even Sport Check.

One other place you might want to check out is Marks Work Wearhouse... My wife likes their yoga/fitness wear for running and pilates, fits well, comfy and stays put. I just recently picked up a few more things for her there and they had alot of this stuff on sale too.

I agree, any brand is fine as long as it fits you and it's comfortable. personally, I look for the material on the tag, specifically spandex or elastane, which is a very stretchy material, and my apparel won't fall when I do my headstand.
I got a pair of yoga short on sale from lululemon, as I cannot find anything else that fits so perfectly. but I refused to buy their yoga Ts which is always over $30 or $40. I found one of the basic Ts from Zara, which is made from elastane, and it's perfect for yoga practise. The regular price is only $20. I always buy them when they are on sale for 10, or even 5. I also found clothing with similar material from H&M too.

I never understood what's so special about a pair of Lulu's :confused::confused: I mean I've tried a pair on and to me they look the same as the ones I got at Eclipse for $20! So I didn't buy the Lulu's as I couldn't justify the price difference. As long as it's comfy and easy to move around in them then they are good enough for me. I just bought a really comfy and nice pair of pants at the Adidas Outlet for $24 during their Friends & Family sale that I'll wear to my yoga classes. I'm finding that the Adidas Outlets got some nice yoga wear at a fraction of the price Lulu charges!

I never understood what's so special about a pair of Lulu's :confused::confused: I mean I've tried a pair on and to me they look the same as the ones I got at Eclipse for $20! +1...the nicest pair of yoga pants I have are from Nike <- they were around $35 after the friends and family discount day and i LOVE them :) they make me look longer legged and supposedly accent the bottom (according to the hubby).

Lulu is cute from a "trendiness" perspective <- however definitely agree it's not worth paying the price AT all. I don't think there's any difference in the performance of it compared to other athletic clothing, other than the little omega sign on the back.

I also buy my workout/yoga stuff from Winners and find great deals.

+1 for Winners. I've picked up Champion and Russell brand pants and they are just as good as Lululemons and I have those too.

You can also check out Costco if you have a membership, they carry a brand called 'Tuff' and it sells for just under $20.

Lulus don't usually look as good on really big people because it stretches out the luon material.
