My friend bought a xbox 360 2 week ago which states behind the console that it's a 12.1 A. That should mean its a jasper. So he got it flashed. When he came back it worked a bit and got the E something error. Anyways long story short the xbox he got flashed now uses a Power brick that has 16.x V. How can a power cord from a 16.x A fits on a jasper which is 12.x A

He then goes out and buy a new xbox 360. It's a jasper with a power cord 12.1A.

So his old one (from 2 weeks ago) inside had a way bigger powersupply and a dvd that when he looked on the internet said it was made in 2007. Behind is xbox, it said it was manufacturered december 2008.

Anyway everything here points out that he got ripped by the guy. What do you guys think?

he got screwed by the modder.

not much he can do at this point other than to harass the modder into returning his money.

He should have been more careful when he went to pick up the console.

Who takes their power adapter when they get a mod?!? Reputable modders won't ask for the adapter to avoid it getting mixed in with different ones or lost.

The power supply has nothing to do with your problem, sounds more like the modder messed up or the console was just on its way to erroring. Not all Jasper has the newer smaller power supply. There has been three different power supply for the Xbox 360, 203W, 175W(Falcon), and 150W (Jasper). The 203W one is arguably the best since it will work with every console. The 175W will work with the Falcon or Jasper console, and the 150W will only work with Jasper console only. Remember the Wattage of the power supply is the "Maximum" power it can deliver, you "will not" be using more power if you are running a Jasper console with a 203w power supply. The power supply will only put out the require power the console requires (upto its maximum). The "only reason" the newer consoles are coming with lower wattage power supply is cost cutting on Microsofts part nothing more. During new (falcon, jasper) console introduction its common to get a new console with older power supply as the stock of power supplies is often greater then the stock of new consoles.

Ok for that but how did his 12.x A console end up with a 16.x A power cord. I was told that different power cords doesn't fit with other type. he bought another jasper and his console is a 12.x A with a power brick of 12.X A, I have a falcon 14.X A and my power brick is a 14.x A.

If its true that you can't plug in power cords from different amp between consoles, how can he have a 16.x A power brick with his 12.X A?

http://support.microsoft.com/library/images/support/kbgraphics/PUBLIC/EN-US/XBOX/HW/PowerSupply/connector.jpgHere's an image of the difference power supply connectors.

The 203W is compatible with ALL Xbox's. The 175W (Falcon) and 150W (Jasper) only work with their respective consoles. They are not backwards compatible.

That is not true. Not All 203 Watt power supply fit the new Jasper power adapter. I know it because I tried.

Also, Its true that you can have a 203W power supply that will work with a Jasper but the Out Amp is too high on the one he is talking about. If the console says it only needs 12.1 Amp and the power supply output is 16.5 Amp. What do you think is gong to happen. It doesn't take a forum junky to solve this one.

It would be much more helpful if whoever responds to questions actually knows what he is talking about.

Looking at the image I posted you can see the 150W connector has the top part of the connector split in two to avoid people trying to plug in the 203W.

Absolutely nothing will happen, it will work perfectly properly. Having more amps is a good thing. Its like having a 500 watt power supply or a 250 watt powersupply in a computer - all that changes is the amperages...

Having a higher voltage will fry components.

Having a lower amperage powersupply than what the unit needs will also fry components as it will be starved for power.

The main problem is that here the console says 12.1 Amp input and the power bar says 16.5 Amp output. I don't think Microsoft would do something like this. Anyways, the 203W power supply didn't even connect to the Jasper mother board which only need 12.1 Amp.

You're wrong the top part of the connector split in two is to stop people from plugging in the 150w into a 175w console.

Just like the bottom part connector spllit on the 175w stops people from plugging that into the 203w console.
