Via Digg: Modern Warfare 2's Controversial Opening (http://hellforge.gameriot.com/blogs/Hellforge/Modern-Warfare-2s-Controversial-Opening)

I understand why they included this "scene" as part of telling a story. It certainly is repulsive. If it were in a movie it might not even bother me and other games, like GTA IV, have done or allow similar scenarios. But, I dunno, something about it comes off as gratuitous. I'm on the fence about it.

Gotta love it. This is what keeps a player playing a game. So different than any other shooter, its really keeps you wanting to play it. Totally unexpected on that last scene.

It is indeed harsh, but i mean, its a video game. The graphics really help make it more "realistic". If you are really touched by this, you shouldn't be playing many of the games out there. Oh, and thats just another reason why this game is rated M for Mature (obviously not a lot of people follow this).

I'm not going to watch so at least I can try and stay visual-spoiler free, but I have no problem with it. The Modern Warfare games take you into situations straight out of the real world, on a level that other games don't. They're fun because they're realistic and they present situations that we don't have to experience. As Activision said, this sets up the Russians for you as the good American.

I can't believe Americans are up in arms about this. The Infamy trailer was a blowout for them, they get to defend Washington and kick ass again, and now gamers are complaining because they don't like the way they're going to be motivated to defend it? Please.

I look forward to this. Maybe I'm twisted.

IMO that terrorist scene is fine, it's no different than running around in GTA shooting pedestrians and taking their cash... or in CS playing as terrorists bombing and killing spec ops... killing is killing...

It's just that public (media) often makes a big deal out of it.

from what i read its not the intro at all

its part of a later mission where you infiltrate the terrorist circle.

when viewed its out of context, you need to play the game to see how it fits in the story.

to me, video games are another form of art. it has an M rating already here.

would you tell spielberg to remove an omaha beach scene?

No, its how it happened.

and that is how terrorism occurs today.

I think the big issue is that the player is forced to do this as part of the game to progress...

I guess it's no different than GTAIV but technically you could go through that game and not kill innocent people :P

I am sure parents will be extremly happy when they see their kids play this...;)

I for one did not enjoy watching it but if it makes the story much more compelling, I'd say it wouldn't hurt. It makes me want to buy the game a lot more now.

Parents shouldn't be letting their under-aged kids play this game in the first place.

fyi, this sequence CAN be skipped...there's a mandatory checkpoint that allows this with a warning before proceeding...

It`s only a game, not a big deal. If parents catch their under-age kids playing this then the parent`s are the ones to blame for letting their children play a game rated M.

If people can`t differentiate between video games and reality are just a bunch of losers. But they`re stupid kids out there that will probably start a riot on the streets because it was in GTA or something. It`s just bad parenting if it comes to that though.

I`m sure Nancy Grace will have a field trip with this! She is so damn annoying.

Not if Nazi Jack Thompson has something to say about it.

Shocking to say the least. I don't know how it fits in with the game but now I'm curious..
