I'm new to the intense workout, but sounds like a great time saver if you have the dedication, I'm motivated that's for sure.

One issue, I don't have any equipment and I'm not sure I want to invest in weights yet but I could be open to it.

My primary goal is to lose weight.

Many reviews have said that you shouldn't even attempt the Insanity DVD without having gone through P90x first. Do you guys agree with this? If so, what equipment would I need to purchase? I like the fact that Insanity doesn't need equipment.

Also, I'll probably be getting this off torrents or newsgroups, is there anywhere I can get the nutrition guide and calender that comes with it to track my progress?

I only watched the insanity video and it looked insane for beginners.

Depending on your fit level I recommend you start off witn p90x. It's tough but doable compared to Insanity. If you don't have the equipments do Plyometrics, kenpo , cardio x, ab ripper x, core synergy, X-stretch for the 90days then try Insanity.

i did p90x before insanity.. and it really depends on the results you want.
insanity is more of a lean look, while p90x is more of a bulk, but you can also do p90x to lean.

just from the experience i had with p90x, i got bored with it after a while at around the 2 month range. I got good results with it but i just got bored, and that mixed with school, i had to quit 63 days in. With insanity, i feel the need to keep coming back to push myself, especially with the 15 day fit tests, you can really track your progress. but then again.. thats just me

for p90x you will NEED: free weights (can get very expensive), a pull up bar
recommended: yoga blocks, yoga mat, heart rate monitor
for insanity all you need is will power, and it is recommended to have a HRM

although i am currently on pause b/c of school, insanity in the 15 days that i did to it showed alot of promise. I lost some weight especially in the abs region, since most of the workouts target that area.

Insanity should only be done by somewhat fit people, just like P90X - if you want to be able push yourself to get the results they advertise. I would do P90 first if you have no athletic background.

I've completed two complete rounds of P90X with great results and am now focusing on cardio conditioning with Insanity. I'm in my second week officially but like P90X I did a trial or two of every DVD before starting the program. Insanity is no joke, I actually threw up in my trials and I'm athletic.

oh yeah.. i threw up 2 times in my first week. plyo and pure cardio are NASTY!

Which HRM would you recommend?

i personally dont have one YET, b/c i thought i wouldn't need one since i didn't use one for p90x, but i think for insanity it should be a requirement. I am just looking into getting a basic one... u wont need it for anything but looking at your rate for recovery purposes.

Depends on what fitness level OP is at, I agree with others that Insanity is do-able if you are fit. However, I would suggest to at least do plyo and cardio (anything from P90x that does not require weights or pull up bar) to get a gut feel of intense jumping around for 1 hour. Most people that have no background in workout starting P90x would say plyo x is really challenging first time to do it. I can barely walk myself up at the end of the routine on my first time.
If you can't really pace up in P90x, chances is that it will be difficult to do insanity.

gonna start this insanity thing next week, looks pretty decent

for those who have done it, will i be able to do this in under and hour daily?

For the most part, most of the dvd's are under 1 hour with the minor exception of the 2nd phase where you would double up on some exercises.

I don't even think Plyometrics or Intervals Plus from the P90x series is a stepping stone to Insanity. I've done a round of P90x and a round of P90x Plus and it's cardio routines are nothing close to the intensity of Insanity.

I've never swore or cursed so much as I did during a workout as I did with Insanity. It's crazy hard but I know it'll get me where I want to get in my fitness level.

I totally didn't see this coming because this was the same dude who did Hip Hop Abs, which was cakewalk compared to this.......

Being around 3 weeks into the program... and it seems that i still take frequent breaks during this workout!. I try and push through, but it seems that around the 12 min left mark my body shuts down and by the end ~ the pushup jacks mark I can barely do 1 or 2. Is this normal!?

I am in around same boat as you in the 3 weeks mark. I can probably survive pure cardio until the last 4 exercise then I start to take some break (5-10 seconds) because some of the move really strain my knee and shoulders. I would say is normal as you can see the people in the video just take breaks on their own, nor I doubt Shaun T can do the entire thing without a break. I think program itself pushes your limit to the max every time because you just try to crank as many reps as possible under the given time, where most of the time I be toasted before the exercise supposed to be over. I think the key is pace yourself out, insanity is a beast, take your breaks if you needed. I have read people hurting their shoulders doing insanity before I start so is ok if you can't manage as many reps.

Insanity is too insane. I don't mind the workouts, but it's really hard on the joints (P90X plyometrics multiplied by 10). I had to stop because it was really hard on the feet, shins, & knees.

I'm on my recovery week (5th wk) right now, for the past month, its been pretty insane, I can just barely get by some of the sessions without having to pause the video. The first week was hell, I think at one point I was lying on the ground, not wanting to get back up. But I did get better, and the fit test definitely helps track your progress. I was very surprised how much better I performed after a mere 2 weeks.

Gotta say I'm really nervous for the next half of the program. Looking at the calendar, almost all the upcoming workouts have the word "Max" in it.
