Nautilus Smith or Free Weights????

I am considering buying some weights to work out at home. I have seen a lot of Nautilus Smith machines online for sale and wanted to get some opinions on what would be better to get... free weights or the Smith machine and why?

There is also much more variety with a barbell set than smith machine.

Exercises like deadlifts, cleans, and curls aren't possible inside a smith.

How much of a price difference is there?
