Hey guys,
I've been noticing a very annoying problem when using my iphone 3gs. About 2/3rds of the time, it takes nearly 20 seconds+ for there to be ringing once the number is dialed and call button is pressed. And even after waiting forever, it will just say call failed sometimes. I have reset my network settings but after a few days the problem comes up again. I've also been loosing my phone and 3g signal outside on campus (in Kingston, Ontario) a lot. Is this just roger's fault or is something up with the iphone. I also find the call quality poor and have to really push the phone next to my ear to hear while outside talking.
Anyone else with these issues?

I read that tests done in NY showed that the iPhone dropped one third of all calls.
Not sure if the problem there is AT&T or the iPhone or a combination of the two, but maybe the problems you are having are related.

Rogers should have a pretty good coverage all over ontario. However, you can always look up their coverage maps in your area to see if it's a coverage issue.
I have an iphone 3gs under Rogers and I have no issues with dropped calls. In fact, I can get signal even in the basement (which I thought was surprising).
May I ask what firmware version you're currently using?

hmm.. I never had issues even back in the 3.0.1 days.
You can upgrade to 3.1.2 safely without updating baseband.
There are people who have produced custom 3.1.2 FW (with baseband update stripped) via PWNAGE Tool and have posted it online. Cyida comes pre-installed and FW is jailbroken already.
For those who are currently on Rogers/Fido with their iphone locked to their specific carriers you can get your updates via This link (http://hotfile.com/dl/14771639/753a2a8/iPhone21_3.1.2_7D11_Custom_Restore.ipsw.html).
For those who are using an iphone purchased outside of Canada (locked to another Carrier) you can update via this link (http://www.zshare.net/download/6689103843b0d275/)
All you have to do is back up your iphone once and then preform a custom restore (hold down shift and click restore) and choose the custom firmware.

Unless you want it unlocked, I don't see problem updating the baseband.

Well I do want it unlocked because when I receive my demo line with bell, I'm going to get unlimited surfing =P

I lose signal in malls, Pacmall, eatons, fairview, scartown, yorkdale 3.12 unlocked
@chinadeals, you just lose VVM if you subscribe, looking for the hack to activate, enable tethering works well also.

Almost 2/4 time I have a call issue with my 3GS on fido network (Montreal).
When I make or receive call after few minutes (it depend sometimes after 4min or 30 min) the person I am talking to is unable to hear me talking but I can still hear the person saying allo... allo.. allo..
The problem is with all the calls (internationals and locals)
I want to know if it is a network problem or it is the phone?
Please answer- my phone is brand new and I want to quickly go for an exchange if there is a problem. Thank you
