Isn't time to throw shoes away when they start to smell and have the need to wash them?

I've washed leather shoes before, even submerged them entirely in water. Used a gentle brush, like an old toothbrush or sponge and just scrubbed by hand. I use dishwasher soap.
Then I let them air dry outside.
If you're concerned about the dyes coming out then I wouldn't recommend it. I've washed all my shoes and never have problems. Sneakers, Uggs, sandals, anything.

If the shoes smell... use cleaning products, air fresheners and possibly replace the insoles or wash the insole.
