View Full Version : [Full] $10/mo Long-Term PS3 Gameshare for n00bs - Votes In!

Hi all - I'm looking to get a group together to start a long-term gameshare. Ideally, people would be starting out with very little content, so we can get all of the "must-haves" right from the get-go. The gameshare would be focused on actual games and not add-ons or expansions (unless it relates to a previous group-buy).
New *Long Term* PS3 Gameshare! Here is how it works (stolen from the other thread ):
(1) 5 People agree to split the purchase of a game together. One member collects all the fees, we'll call him the Gameshare Captain (GSC).
(2) The Gameshare captain collects all fees (COST OF GAME + TAXES + PAYPAL FEES divided by 5) Fees are sent by members to the GSC as a PERSONAL TRANSACTION - GIFT through Paypal.
(3) Once the GSC receives and confirms everyones funds. He creates a NEW USER on his PS3. He then signs up for a NEW PSN ID. He then purchases the game using his credit card OR pre-paid PSN card. (If CC is used, the GSC must remove/delete his personal info/billing info for security reasons before sharing the login and password).
(4) Once all fees are collected, and the game has been purchased under a new USER ID and PSN ID, and the GSC has removed his personal purchasing information. The GSC will distribute the gameshare PSN ID to all paid members of the gameshare.
(5) After receiving their gameshare PSN login, each of the remaining (four) gameshare members will create a NEW USER on their PS3 and under this new user setup their account under the PSN as an existing account using the information provided by their GSC. Each user locates and downloads the chosen game they paid for and the gameshare is complete.
I propose that we each spend $10 a month at the start of the month and pick games. Additionally, I'd like to throw in an extra $10 so that we can do one big intial purchase to start off. Here's how we'd decide what to purchase:
I propose that this group will spend $10 a month and generate a pool of funds this way. This $10/mo. would be a regular fee so that our pool always increases. This allows us to purchase 3-5 new games every month. If all 5 members agree, we can do an additional fund pooling if there are games everyone wants but the pool does not have enough money. I will create a Google Doc for the group to track our team balance.
Each month, each member posts 5 games they wish to purchase and we do a vote, with three categories:
Buy - I want it!
Indifferent - Doesn't really matter
No - Don't buy
A game will be bought if the majority of the votes are YES. A game will also be bought if 4 people vote YES and only 1 votes NO.
Here are the scenarios where a game will be bought:
1) 3x YES, 2x Indifferent
2) 4x YES, 1x Indifferent
3) 4x YES, 1x No
I'd be great if we can find a good group and make it last. If you're interested, post your interests as a start, what kinds of things you're looking for, and what you already have (if anything). For the first month, I'd like to tackle the "big games" that everyone else already has, but of course this will be a group decision. With $100 we should be able to get 6-8 games.
Examples: Battlefield 1943, Crash Commando, Cuboid, Echochrome, Fat Princess, Noby Noby Boy, Pixel Junk Eden / Monsters, Rag Doll Kung Fu, Super Stardust, Trine, WipeoutHD, Marvel vs Capcom, Worms, Ratchet & Clank, etc...

here's some tips/help/comments:
I recommend you get as much as you can within the first purchase. This would avoid any issues with members deciding to leave after a few months which may happen. Make sure all the members are willingly going to agree to this and are planning on keeping their PS3 barring any 'out of their control' issues. Make sure each member is at least a long time poster/user of RFD.
I've was in a long-term Rock Band Gameshare that only purchased twice before almost everyone left. Find good members.
Good luck with your gameshare as it saves tonnes of money and provided optimum enjoyment.

Thanks for the post thechampion. It's a good point and I hope it works out. It'd be nice if people had lots of posts / time spent on RFD or some other way to be "vouched", but I recognize that I don't fit that criteria myself... so we'll see, I guess.

i might have to dust off my ps3 a little bit... but i wouldn't say no to a large initial purchase. damn this buy first think/play later mentality.
i'm pretty much looking for multi-player games. and any games that are fun and worth the time invested.
current games: super puzzle fighter?

- WipeoutHD - $19.99 + tax

Yea, I'm excited for the first buy, but the idea would definitely be to keep this ongoing. Would be nice to see the group make through the winter (six months or more?).

Ok, starting from scratch so far we've got:
- bessam
- jayster_4_69
- germ80
- always
Also,
- kanechart
- MC25
kanechart has a few games already which might cause some problems if the rest of us want to pick up a few of those on the list, but who knows, maybe we can get around it. What do you guys think? If we're a good fit then maybe four of us could do a side buy if we wanted any games that kanechart already has.
MC25, maybe a one-time gameshare would be a better bet. If we're going to aim for six months then that'll amount to maybe 20 games, so if your "want list" is short it might not be worth it for you.

Oct 27th, 2009, 11:17 PM
Well I for sure would like to go 5-6 months but I really don't want to pay double for a few the games I got. But I mean these forums have lots of people who would easily take 1 spot in a gameshare to fill in the gaps.
jayster_4_69
Oct 27th, 2009, 11:24 PM
wow looks like we almost have our game share group finalized, thats great!!
ya i really hope it goes a year or more but 6 months would be nice.
everyone seems to have some good ideas for games to buy.
Thanks again Bessam for getting all this arranged

Haha I'd love it to go indefinitely, but I thought I'd temper expectations by saying six months and seeing what happens.
From my end, I'm happy to work around games that kanechart already has. There's plenty else on PSN - not worth losing someone who seems enthusiastic about the gameshare over.

I think the best way to approach this is to make a bigger list than usual to start the gameshare, and try to keep up with interesting new releases over the next few months. I would be interested to know which games kanechart already has. I would be more than happy to have him in, but there are so many people that would want to join a gameshare on RFD that I don't want to pass on good games because someone already bought them. Perhaps it's a non-issue... kanechart can you let us know what games you already have? From there, let's establish the final list of people that are on the gameshare, and we can then "vote" on which games we want on the initial purchase. I would be willing to go bigger for the first time around, if everyone agrees.

i agree it would be nice to see what games kanechart has.
also creating a huge list of current wants would be a great idea.
maybe we could even set some kind of new game to old game ratio where every month we buy 3 old games and 1 new game. not sure how it would work but just throwing it out there.
im going to create a big list of all the games i want tonite, then we should combine all those unique games into a wants list and then everyone can rate them from 1(being the most wanted) to ~50(being the least wanted) and we can start buying from the top of the list.

I would propose that each of us make a list of 10 games for the initial buy. Then, I'll compile the list and we'll vote on the most common ones as per the first post (yes / indifferent / no) and we'll buy the top 7.
Of kanechart's games, I want:
- Super Stardust HD (Original)
- Mushroom Wars
- Flow (Original)
- Pixel Junk (assuming this is Eden?)
- maybe Battlefield
Anyways, as mentioned I would be fine to grab these on the side as a one-time gameshare. I don't need everything all at once anyways.
For interest's sake, here's my working master list of wants:
Battlefield 1943, Braid, Calling All Cars, Castle Crashers, Crash Commando,Cuboid, Echochrome, Fat Princess, flOw, Flower, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Mushroom Wars, Noby Noby Boy, Oddworld, Pixel Junk Eden, Pixel Junk Monsters, Rag Doll Kung Fu, Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty, Super Stardust, Trine, The Last Guy, WipeoutHD, Worms
I'll post my 10 picks for November in a bit.

Oh that was his game list! Sorry I misunderstood! Well good then, I can easily avoid the games that he had in the first place. Like you said, we can make another gameshare without him to cover for his games. Here is my renewed suggestion list:
- Fat Princess $14.99 + tax
- Flower $9.99 + tax
- WipeoutHD - $19.99 + tax
- Crash Commando - $9.99 + tax
- Burnout
- Worms
- Noby Noby Boy

Trine
Uno
Wolfenstein 3D
Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3
Zen Pinball
and FYI i did create a spreadsheet of all the games i would like and the links to each games wiki page.
so in the future if we want to make list of games and prioritize them i will have this on hand.

I like bessam's games, I could easily want to go for that exact same list. There are some games that I couldn't care less on jayster's list: Bionic Commando, Wolfenstein (didn't we play this game 20 years ago?), Uno, Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 (crappy reviews). I don't want Battlefield anyways...

Ok, well, let's wait for kanechart and always to post their lists, I'll sort them by popularity and we can vote. Obviously with a group like this there will be games that you might not care tons about but for the money we're saving it'll only work if we're flexible. I'm actually kind of excited for grabbing some games I wouldn't otherwise try...
jayster_4_69

maybe we can setup that separate group buy i a couple months since we will have many games to play with this first $100 purchase

My list in no particular order:
Fat Princess
Trine
Flower
Crystal Defender
1942: Joint Strike
Battle Tanks
fl0w?
Battlefield 1943?
Worms
n/a
seems like Battlefield 1943 and fl0w is already owned by someone... but is it completely out of the question?

I would like:
Shatter
Zombie Apocalypse
PixelJunk Eden
Fat Princess
Flower
Trine
Bejeweled 2
Battle Tanks
Bionic Commando Rearmed
Crystal Defenders
Worms
If you unsure about a game type in youtube psn and the name of the game. Most of them are cool I think :)
bessam
Oct 28th, 2009, 10:50 PM
Nice timing kanechart. Ok, now that the Yankees lost (woo!) here's the tally:
Flower - 5
Fat Princess - 4
Trine - 4
Worms - 3
1942: Joint Strike - 2
Battle Tanks - 2
Bionic Commando Rearmed - 2
Crash Commando - 2
Crystal Defender - 2
Noby Noby Boy - 2
Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty - 2
WipeoutHD - 2
Bejeweled, Cuboid, Heavy Weapon, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Shatter , Uno, Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3, Wolfenstein 3D , Zen Pinball, Zombie Apocalypse - 1
Ok, no need to vote for Flower, Fat Princess or Trine. Of the list of games that got two/three nominations, I think we can afford to do 3-4 of them. If it turns out to be too expensive we can either pay the extra or just put one of the games on the list for next month. So, use 4 "Yes" votes and mark the rest as no/indifferent.
Here are my votes:
Worms - Indifferent
1942: Joint Strike - Indifferent
Battle Tanks - Indifferent
Bionic Commando Rearmed - YES
Crash Commando - Indifferent
Crystal Defender - Indifferent
Noby Noby Boy - YES
Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty - YES
WipeoutHD - YES
Hopefully this will work out lol. Tons of good stuff though; lots to consider going forward!
Also - there's a side gameshare if four of us want to go in now or later, or find another person:
Battlefield 1943, fl0w, PixelJunk Eden, Super Stardust HD, Mushroom Wars
$15-16 if it's us four, but then we could just use the same gameshare account as the main one since kanechart already has these anyways. It'd be $12-13 with a fifth person.

Also i like the idea of just the 4 of us doing that other game share and using the same account. no need to complicate things for a couple bucks.
maybe we can do this next month or the one after depending on how badly everyone wants these games

Its RFD, if we finalize the list of games being purchased, I'm sure someone will want to chip in for that exact list. People on this forum will do anything to save $$$

Done lol
bessam
Oct 29th, 2009, 12:34 PM
Ok, here's what I have as of the current posted results:
Game (Yes / OK / No)
WipeoutHD (4, 1, 0)
Battle Tanks (3, 2, 0)
Noby Noby Boy (3, 2, 0)
Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty (3, 2, 0)
Bionic Commando Rearmed (3, 1, 1)
Crash Commando (2, 2, 1)
1942: Joint Strike (2, 1, 2)
Worms (1, 4, 0)
Crystal Defender (0, 4, 1)
That means that this month we will be buying:
Battle Tanks - $9.99
Fat Princess - $14.99
Flower - $9.99
Noby Noby Boy - $4.99
Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty - $9.99
Trine - $19.99
WipeoutHD - $19.99
Total: $89.93 + tax = $101.62 + $2.62 Paypal fees = $104.24
Per person: $17.99 + tax = $20.32 + $0.52 = $20.84 or $2.98 per person per game
So, that's just over our threshold, but I'd propose just contributing $21 this month instead of re-voting between Battle Tanks, Noby Noby Boy and Ratchet & Clank, though we can of course do this and carry over the balance next month. Thoughts?
If the Paypal fees are lower that what I've calculated that will of course be re-added to the pool total.

Hey germ80 - got your USD transaction. Paypal will charge to refund it, so I'll see how much they give for $21 USD (when I dump it into my bank account) and we'll balance it out next month. Google says it should be $22.50 CAD, so we'll see!

Also, Paypal fees were only $1.00 ($0.50 for each transaction... one CAD, one USD), so that's nice. Next month, always should contribute $9 since he put in an extra dollar now, and germ80 should put in $9.18 (according to Paypal, $21 USD = $21.82 CAD).

Nov 2nd, 2009, 07:10 PM
Third week of November sounds good as far as starting up the next month's list, though we did manage to get some super-quick turnaround on the voting and paying.
Games are good - haven't gotten into the multiplayer ones yet (should get some group games going) but I'm loving Trine and Flower. Flower in particular gets really interesting once you kind of figure it out :P Ratchet & Clank is pretty good too but I'm having a bit of a hard time staying engaged.
Can't wait to see what we'll come up with next month... also, what are the thoughts on that side gameshare we were going to do for fl0w, Super Stardust, etc.... personally I feel like I've got a huge backlog to work through so I'm okay holding off for a while...

Hey Guys,
just wanted to put this out there, but would you want to purchase these games soon:
- Super Stardust HD + expansion?? (its cheaper bundled)
- Mushroom Wars
- Flow (Original)
- Pixel Junk Eden
im kinda getting bored of these games already and i really want Super Stardust!! i love the demo and also Pixel Junk Eden is super fun.
let me know when you want to get these games.
Thanks

Heh, get that new hard drive installed did ya?
Anyways, I am down for whenever... still working through the games we got last time but who cares. jayster, can you get the prices for those games?
I don't mind organizing again - if it's the four of us, then we don't have to do anything but buy the games since the fifth person has them anyways, but if we want to lower the cost I can organize a one-time gameshare to try and find a fifth person. Personally, I'm lazy and wouldn't mind spending the extra $2 or whatever to just keep it within our group.

Hey Bessam,
ya i already beat Ratchet and Clank and i tried Trine but had it glitch 4 hours into the game so i just gave up cuz i didnt wanna play it for another 4 hours lol
heres the prices:
- Super Stardust HD + expansion is $14.99 or $9.99 without
- Mushroom Wars $9.99
- Flow (Original) $7.99
- Pixel Junk Eden $9.99
i really want the expansion pack for super stardust and it would only be about $1.50 each.
i guess now we see when everyone agrees on when to get these.

My suggestions for the next gameshare (in no particular order):
- Madden Arcade (out for Thanksgiving)
- Wipeout HD Fury
- Braid
- Zen Pinball
- Lumines Supernova
By the way, I highly recommend looking at Metacritic for unbiased scores of games. It tells a lot as to whether a game should be good or not:

I guess I'm the last one eh? I don't have anything in mind that hasn't been mentioned yet, so here's the compiled list:
1942 Joint Strike
Braid
Crash Commando
Lumines Supernova
Madden Arcade
Military Madness
Peggle
Wipeout HD Fury
Zen Pinball
Zombie Apocalypse
We can probably grab three of these, so let's go with 3 yes votes per person.
Also, for those of us who aren't kanechart, can we do a yes/no vote on the package we've been discussing?
- Super Stardust HD + Expansion
- Mushroom Wars
- Fl0w
- Pixel Junk Eden
Total per person: $11.40 ($45.61 total incl tax & paypal)

And to follow-up immediately with my own votes:
1942 Joint Strike - Indifferent
Braid - YES
Crash Commando - Indifferent
Lumines Supernova - YES
Madden Arcade - YES
Military Madness - NO
Peggle - NO
Wipeout HD Fury - Indifferent
Zen Pinball - Indifferent
Zombie Apocalypse - Indifferent

So, results aren't as clean as last time:
1942 Joint Strike: 1 / 3 / 1
Braid: 3 / 2 / 0
Crash Commando: 0 / 4 / 1
Lumines Supernova: 3 / 2 / 0
Madden Arcade: 3 / 0 / 2
Military Madness: 1 / 2 / 2
Peggle: 3 / 0 / 2
Wipeout HD Fury: 0 / 4 / 1
Zen Pinball: 0 / 5 / 0
Zombie Apocalypse: 1 / 4 / 0
Braid and Lumines are in, but the third game is a bit unclear haha.
Two games (Peggle and Madden) have 3 YES votes but 2 NO votes, so I guess these should be counted out (!).
I think it has to come down with the two most inoffensive games: Zombie Apocalypse (1 YES / 4 Indifferent) or Zen Pinball (5 Indifferent).
Between the two, my vote goes to Zombie Apocalypse.

well that really sucks peggle and madden are the only two games i want so can i redo my votes to this:

Braid - NO
Crash Commando - Indifferent
Lumines Supernova - NO
Madden Arcade - YES
Military Madness - Indifferent
Peggle - YES
Wipeout HD Fury - Indifferent
Zen Pinball - Indifferent
Zombie Apocalypse - YES
i know this might screw things up but i really dont want Braid or Lumines so i should have said no, just didnt think not saying NO would have made me lose out on the games i actually wanted.

This is the problem with gameshare, there comes a time where people will obviously disagree. I would take Peggle and Madden if that could satisfy always and jayster. Is that proposition acceptable? Or we could take Peggle for this month since it's already out, and have Madden added to next month by default? Either option are good for me. I want to be as flexible as possible.

Madden Arcade

I agree with this question, maybe the best solution at the moment especially that the next gameshare might be only in January. I mean not many of us will be around during the holidays so maybe it's worth to look at it this way.
For 1$ per person since they are on sale, I also wonder if there is a possibility of adding Bomberman Ultra and/or Prince of Persia.

Ok, doing the five games would make each contribution roughly $13, so not really a big jump. I don't mind spending a few extra dollars, but I also appreciate people who say they don't since we did say we'd spend $10 / each per month.
Anyways, the way I see it is we either
- buy the whole lot,
- vote between those five games and pick the top 3-4 to fit within our budget ($52 for the month) and put the remaining games on the list for next month
- go nuts now and skip the end of December (next gameshare at the end of January?)
I'll go with consensus on this one - but I think if someone doesn't want to go over budget we should respect that and vote with the smaller list.
As for the sale games, I'd be okay with Bomberman, PoP, and would like The Last Guy in there too :P

I agree with you, if someone doesn't want to burst the usual 10$ budget, I can totally understand and will respect that.
My vote is to take all 5 games + add Bomberman, PoP and The Last Guy since they are on sale. We could then set the next gameshare at either mid or end of January. It would bring us to what, 16$ each? I think for 16$, we would get a lot of gaming in our hands!

So it looks like we're all in. Personally, I don't mind paying the money but I think we're going a little overboard... I just don't have time to play all these games! So, I wouldn't mind waiting until early January for the next batch, but we'll deal with it when it comes.
Braid, Lumines, Peggle, Madden, Zombie = $59.95 + tax = $67.74 / $13.55
PoP, Last Guy, Bomberman = $14.97 + tax = $16.92 / $3.38
fl0w, Mushroom, Stardust, Eden = $42.96 + tax = $48.55 / $12.14
Paypal = $0.50 / $0.10

bessam: $29.17

Hey guys, looks like fees get charged when you send money as a "Payment". Please send as a "Gift" going forward. That way there should be no fee to send or receive the money - there's only a $0.50 fee to withdraw money from Paypal.
Enjoy the games!
