Just a guess but maybe OP is pissed that it's only for PS3 or Netflix not available in Canada?

thats a good deal for Americans considering you can't even rent two movies at BBV or Rogers Video for the same price.

Sure you can. I think at BBV, it's $3.99 for a 2-day, new-release rental. But we're splitting hairs here. I wish Zip.ca would implement the movie streaming or something.

Perhaps if you had a VPN in the U.S. and you made a fake U.S. account on your ps3 it would work, but I dunno.

this thread seems a little harsh.
It's not really Sony or MS's fault that Netflix is not available in Canada. It's most likely some kind of legal or CRTC barrier.

What the hell are you pissed off for? Since when has Netflix been available in Canada? It never has... So now that they are offering their service for the PS3, why are you surprised (and apparently pissed off) that you can't get this in Canada?

Someone should bomb Sky too while at it:
It’s official. In the UK, Sky has launched on Xbox LIVE and Gold members with at least 2MB broadband, and either a Sky TV or Sky Player can watch Sky One, MTV and Sky Arts. Those without Sky subscriptions can subscribe for £15 ($27) and for £19 ($34) for sports channels. Twenty-four channels are currently on the Sky service.

I would be really happy if they added more and more tv channels to ps3 and 360, especially if we could pick and choose which we wanted and could use the hdd on each as a pvr. I would be so happy. Of course this doesnt seem cheap as of now but as internet gets faster i think we will see this happening and getting cheaper.
woot!
Good post, thanks
Why are people always so quick to blame the CRTC for things they aren't involved in?
It was my understanding that the CRTC was somehow involved due to canadian content requirements or somethng like that. I dont know for a fact but that was just my understanding. I would love to know if you know the real reason and to share it once and for all. Thanks duder!

I thought it was the CRTC too. They were the reason why things like online music streaming and such and online tv and the works just never could come into Canada from legal crap with the CRTC.
I could be wrong but who knows.

I could be wrong but who knows. You'll notice that the TV and Music features are ONLY available in the US as fully featured products. Only the US and UK get Last.fm (same countries that have the web service, minus Germany). The reason is not the CRTC, it is because of the music and video labels who own the rights to the artists/shows in each individual country. If the CRTC was involved, we would be the only country without that content.

Zip.ca has expressed interest in providing online streaming to Canada, but Microsoft has not approached them about it. The service already exists in Canada, so there's no way the CRTC can play a part in that.

Just to add to my last post, the CRTC's decision to stay away from content distributed online still holds today. Starting in February there have been rumbles about ISPs charging a tax to create a fund for Canadian New Media artists, but that is the only development. In 1999 the CRTC excluded internet communication from its regulations.
All the content we can't watch online (Hulu, Last.fm, Pandora, Xbox Live Video Store, PSN Video Store, NBC Website, CBS Webste, etc.) are all because of license agreements between the content creators in the US and rights holders in Canada (Canwest Global, CTVglobemedia, etc).

What's the point
For rogers/bell users, dont we only have 60gb a month to blow?
These online streaming services will never work if that cap doesn't get removed

That kind of the sony/microsoft/netflix way. They go through the red tape in the US, but they never seem to go through the effort in other places like Canada or most of Europe.
It'd nice if they made the effort. I imagine the US has red tape as well when it comes to distrubution. I'm sure they could cut through Canada's red tape as well.

this title makes even less sense than before.
is he/she implying that you pay 299 for the console to utilize the service of Netflix????
if thats the case, its absolutely backwards thinking. You pay 299 for the console only, they never even mention you pay 299 for Netflix as part of the PS3 or even the 360 pricing scheme. The service is an option which no one ever has to utilize.
I can't believe someone would complain about something no coming to Canada and even if it was, its completely optional.

You're not understanding that this has nothing to do with Sony. Sony enabled Netflix on PS3s. Netflix isn't available in Canada. Are you expecting Sony to say "Gee, sorry you unlucky hosers, but since Netflix, who is completely independent from us, won't allow you to take advantage of their service, we'll gladly lower the price of Canadian PS3s by $10/$20/$50/$whatever the hell you think is appropriate." Blame Netflix, not Sony.
