Where did you get it and what are the first 3 digits of your serial number?

From: http://www.photosynthesis.co.nz/nikon/serialno.html

AF-S 50/1.4 G China 4+ 200001 203772 - 237249 > Sep08 - > 37249
AF-S 50/1.4 G for USA 4+ 600001 601289 - 616484 > Sep08 - > 16484

I bought one from FutureShop to try earlier and it has a 2 series number.
One ordered off eBay from China has a 6 series number.

That's confusing IF based on the chart on the website. Just wondering if the Canadian bound versions should have the 2 or 6 series. Thanks!

EDIT: Reading into this thread (http://photo.net/nikon-camera-forum/00Sajo) it looks like the above data is just fluff.

In general, Canadian lenses and accessories will begin with 2; where bodies begin with 5. US lenses usually either have a "Nikon US" sticker or begin with a different number.

I dont really understand why it matters where it comes from with respect to Nikon optics. If it doesn't come from japan, why does it matter?

Its not like Nikon will move production of the $500 50G to Japan. You should buy the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 if you want something decent for that ridiculous cost.

It doesn't. Was merely an exercise to discover the origin, and perhaps the warranty.

ahh my bad for assuming, I hear that sometimes they dont even care about warranty at nikon canada, not even asking for a receipt!

But I do know for sure, that they scan in the product number to make sure its canadian.
