So my girlfriend and I are going to Paris this Christmas for a few days.
We are going to wing it a bit in terms of sightseeing -- the only "must-see" things are the Louvre, Pompidou, and the Eiffel Tower of course. Otherwise we're just going to stroll.
However, is there any recommended places to eat? We want to spend at least one night in a fine-dining (but not bank-breaking) restaurant, and at least one night in a local-fare type restaurant (e.g. something that the locals know about; a hole in the wall type thing).
Thanks in advance!

Brasserie Julien (http://www.julienparis.com/) might satisfy both of your desires. Delicious (and traditional) food with an incredible atmosphere - very art nouveau. Located sort of near the red light district, so it's absent of tourists and not as expensive as comparable places. Desserts are incredible.
For hole in the wall, there are plenty to choose from - just stay well off the main streets and away from the big touristy areas. Ducking down side streets will be your best option to find the locals.

The St. Michel area has a ton of cheap (well for Paris anyways) restaurants. Seems sort of touristy, but I'd def. go again for lunch or something.
Def. try out the croissants. They're amazing! Beat anything we have here!

OMG, just south of the Louvre is a restaurant at Place du Louvre called Le Fumoire. It's a really nice place (a little pricy) but the food is amazing. The beef carpacio is so tasty, so many awesome flavours. Their Lemon tort is heavenly. After walking around the Louvre this is a great treat. I tried some fish and some beef from others and they were also great but I would reco the carpacio as a french experience.

When I went with my gf last two times, we made sure we had a mini fridge in our room. Every morning, it was fresh baguette and brie cheese :D
