I plan to apply for aerospace engineering at Ryerson for fall 2010. I graduated in June 2009 and am taking a year off to return with my parents to our home country to pay our respect for my dead grandfather (it's tradition to mourn for one year). My average is approximately 86.4% yet I would like to know what my chances are of being accepted. I am asking because I have a slight fear that since I am taking a year off

shouldn't be too hard
i got into Carleton's aerospace engineering program with 86%
they even gave me a $18,000 scholarship which i gladly declined.
I would think Carleton might have some slight higher reputation than Ryerson still

IIRC, not many schools have aerospace engineering programs. UofT has it as a EngSci specialization.

Oh, I merely pointing out the fact that the OP was asking about Ryerson specifically. Bestknightmare answered with his previous experience with Carleton which isn't what the OP is concerned about.

Did you have write some essay, because since I'm taking a year off, I have to write an essay to be considered for admission. But I worry that it might hurt my admission

I don't think taking a yr off would significantly affect your chances in getting into your program. You should be fine.

At least that greatly lessens my worry:)
