Hello,
I will be driving from winnipeg to kingston in end of october. I'm planning to take HWY 11 as someone told me that it is more leveled and civilised than hwy 17. I'm planning to start trip from 6 am in the morning and to stop at thunder bay and then again same thing, so planning to reach there in 2 days.

Last year in summer I drove from hwy 17 and found bit curvey road. This time it is around winter so it may snow or not, is there any tips or anything that i should know??

do you think that hwy 11 would be better?

I can't take US route, as my friend is driving with me and he doesn't have the US visa.

Thank you

I've done the Winnipeg to Toronto a couple of times using Hwy 17 both in the spring and winter.

It is an okay route and the road is good all the way to Toronto, however I do prefer the US route, but you mentioned that is not a possibility.

Be warned that you should top up on fuel if you reach half a tank at anytime during your trip, as the next gas station may not be for some distance. You don't want to be stuck trying to thumb your way to the nearest town for gas. Oh ya, cell phone coverage will be quite sketchy in between towns.

Just take your time and don't push yourself or your car out of your comfort level and you should be fine. The scenery is great on Hwy 17 as you are passing along the lake. Sorry can't tell you much about the Hwy 11 route.

They were calling for up to 15cm of snow along Hwy 11 over the past day or two (Timmins area) so be prepared if you're taking that route. The forecast is for another 5cm on Monday.

get yourself some snow tires :D

Is there a US consulate in Winnipeg? You could try to get a Visa if it will make it faster/safer trip it will be worth it. I'm not sure if you are able to ask for one at the border.
